1. TP-Link Archer BE805 Wireguard VPN Server performance -- 1.4Gbps...1.7Gbps download, 1.8Gbps upload. This is based on my own test results.

2. From the above thread:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/wifi-7-routers-with-high-vpn-server-speed.7087782/

Wireguard VPN Client performance (can also be the reference for Wireguard VPN Server performance) from a German Youtuber. The author mentions that Asus Wireguard VPN implementation only uses two core of the CPU and not 4-core.

Asus ROG GT-BE19000 -- 889 Mbps download, 748 Mbps upload (BCM 4916 CPU)
Asus ROG GT-BE98 -- 1058 Mbps download, 735 Mbps upload (BCM 4916 CPU)
Asus RT-BE88U -- 1134 Mbps download, 677 Mbps upload (BCM 4916 CPU)
Asus RT-BE92U -- 752 Mbps download, 503 Mbps upload (BCM6755/6754 CPU)
TP-Link Archer GE800 -- 2113 Mbps download, 1057 Mbps upload (IPQ9574 CPU)
TP-Link Archer BE800 -- 2114 Mbps download, 1979 Mbps upload (IPQ9574 CPU)
TP-Link Archer BE550 -- 1682 Mbps download, 1232 Mbps upload (IPQ9554 CPU)
TP-Link Archer BE230 -- 865 Mbps download, 814 Mbps upload (BCM6755/6754 CPU)

TP-Link has released a new pre-release beta FW for Archer BE805. Take note Beta Firmware is not recommended for most of the users here.

The Web UI will have watermark "TP-LINK BETA" on it. The FW version is shown as "1.2.4 Build 20250724 rel.68249(5347)".

Download and info:

Archer BE805(US)_V1_1.3.0 Build 20250710Download
Published Date: 2025-08-07Language: Multi-languageFile Size: 46.51 MB

This update introduces the VPN kill switch function, wireless driver upgrade, bug fixes, and system optimizations. Note that you cannot downgrade back to 1.2.x firmware once you have upgraded to 1.3.0 firmware.
New Features/Enhancements:
1. Newly support VPN Kill Switch function to ensure data security, which allows disconnecting the internet for VPN clients once if the VPN tunnel drops.
2. Newly upgraded wireless driver to enhance compatibility and stability.
3. Optimized Wireless stability.
4. Enhanced MLO function compatibility.
5. Optimized OpenVPN server compatibility.
6. Enhanced system stability and security.
7. Optimized IPv6 compatibility.
Bug Fixes:
1. Fixed the bug that the client could still play videos after bedtime expired.
2. Fixed the bug that AMSDU compatibility issues on Apple devices caused speed drops.
3. Fixed the bug that when ISP only sent a single DNS server, the router would add an additional default DNS server like 8.8.8.8, potentially causing DNS resolution errors.

Never got video buffering issues.

I only got MLO issues and it is fixed by beta FW 1.2.4 Build 20250724 rel.68249(5347).

I will upgrade to version 1.3 later this week.

Interesting.

Looks like the first report of HW quality issues of TP-Link WiFi 7 adapter in this forum section (many FW quality issue reports but not HW quality).

I tend to think TP-Link Wireless router HW quality is okay, with three year HW warranty for consumer models like Archer BE805 and 4 years HW warranty for service provider models like EB810v/HB810/HB710.

My old TP-Link Deco M4 (4 units, two units flashed with OpenWRT) are still working fine, bought in 2019/2020. Old range extenders like RE350 (bought in 2018, running OpenWRT now) is also working.

yea i'm quite disappointed so i'm not sure is it worth the time to bring in for 1-1 exchange.

Just updated and MLO (5GHz+6GHz) is working fine.

5GHz --> CH60, 160MHz channel bandwidth
6GHz --> CH85, 320MHz channel bandwidth

Latest FW version (upgraded from beta version)

5GHz+6GHz MLO, 3m distance from my Acer Swift Go 14 2024 model laptop (Intel BE200 chipset based Intel Killer BE1750 WiFi 7 adapter) -- much more stable than previously. In fact it was totally broken previously.

6GHz SSID -- still has faster and more consistent WiFi 7 speed.

Firmware 1.3.. For MLO the speed will be 6ghz.. Then after a while near to router will drop to 6ghz speed... MLO will have occasionally disconnect issue also.. Hiaz.. Guess for MLO to mature need at least 5 years

my set seems to need a reboot every 2 to 3 days else performance drops - as observed from Speedtest.

After reboot - 2gbps
Before - 1gbps

Eagerly awaiting new firmware to see if it fixes the issue
