that's the thing about jhk. they may be Chinese ed and scoff at Sinkies for being jiak kentang, but on the other hand jhk take a very relaxed approach towards using the correct Chinese word, esp in typing out things on soc media.

i think they r following Tw style of 繁体字。

a lot of Msia went to Tw for their uni studies, so pick up their language from there.


i think this 她 started to appear when CCP revamp Mandarin to 简体字 from 1956.

1949 CCP took over China w Chiang Kai Shek fleed to Tw.

few yrs later in 1954, CCP formed a committee to revamp the Mandarin writing.

1954年12月，中国文字改革研究委员会改组为中国文字改革委员会（简称文改会），直属于国务院。

I believe the letter "她" started to became popular in 大陆文化。

if u read 繁体小说 from Tw or HK, esp written by older writers, they will use 他 to refer to both sexes.

these also common in old literatures from China, from authors like 鲁迅、巴金、冰心、etc

they even use 先生 to refer to respectful ladies like 冰心先生
