anyone having slower than usual access to twitter? during the day is fine but when past 9-10pm it becomes quite slow, loading images can take a while too.

when I use NordVPN to Japan seems to fix the issue, so I'm thinking its MR, every other website else seems fine so far

I have this issue. Initially I suspect it’s just twitter overload due to US stock market open.

MyRepublic customers to see no immediate changes to existing services: StarHub

Published Aug 14, 2025, 01:31 PM
Updated Aug 14, 2025, 02:11 PM

SINGAPORE – Customers of broadband provider MyRepublic, which was fully acquired by majority owner StarHub on Aug 12, will see no immediate changes to their subscription plan structures and pricing.

StarHub’s consumer business chief Matt Williams also said the acquisition “gives us an opportunity to leverage the broader StarHub assets”. For one thing, he said MyRepublic customers will shortly be offered discount bundles to Premier League subscriptions.

Mr Williams was speaking at the company’s results briefing on Aug 14, two days after StarHub, which already held a 50.1 per cent stake in MyRepublic’s broadband business since 2022, took over the remaining 49.9 per cent share.

A StarHub spokesman told The Straits Times that there are no immediate plans for any job cuts.
Said the spokesman: “There are no immediate plans for team restructuring or changes to existing services following the acquisition. Our focus remains on delivering quality, reliability and seamless experiences for customers as we continue to align and strengthen the business.”

Mr Williams said at the briefing: “We’ve worked with the MyRepublic broadband team for some time now. They do a great job at serving their customers in a really distinctive way, so we’re going to give them the space and the encouragement to continue with that.”

On ST’s query on whether StarHub will throttle connection speeds for heavy users of MyRepublic broadband – a key concern raised by MyRepublic users – Mr Williams did not say what the company will do.

Since its launch in 2011, MyRepublic has promised users no throttling or the imposition of speed limits on international downloads. Without network throttling, users experience little lag in surfing, gaming and video streaming.

The trust is just sitting on a fine line right now; for me.

I will cancel the contract immediately if Starhub force me to use their ONT+Router. I signed MyRepublic for more than 10 years because of their price and simple ONT and I choose my own router.

Agreed, this is the reason.
Hopefully SH don't f up MR please. 😭

They can say all the want now, but we all know that anytime SH says to close shop/change, what can MR say.
Literally counting the chickens before the eggs hatch. Need to save the post and revist, just in case. :s22: :s13:

Starhub uses ONT as well and you can use your own router (Nokia ONR is now mostly gone other than a hidden offer to clear stock).

The following is just my two cents. Take it with a grain of salt.

Potential good thing from fully Starhub-owned MR.
1) no more CGNAT?
2) IPv6?
3) good 3Gbps and 5Gbps offer
4) good Entertainment bundle

Good things unlikely to be taken out by Starhub.
1) Good routing for Gamer plan
2) No throttling

Potential things to be gone:
1) MR VOIP service
2) If no more CGNAT, static IPv4 add-on may be gone.

We can only monitor and adapt accordingly, hopefully it's not a regression but no high hopes.
Ultimately, it's all dollar and cents that companies look at. 🤡

This one may well be gone.

I tend to believe this is the first MR service to be cut.

They may offer Digital Voice instead. Starhub digital service is at S$2.18 per month.

https://www.starhub.com/personal/home-phone/home-phone-line.html

if they close it, that will be doubly sad.

used to be on SH digital voice, with a "3xxxxxxx" number. lilnked staff hp and home extensions (mine, an key personnel) to office PABX (was playing with Asterisk back then). then SH killled off the service. sad.

if it goes, have to find a new provider.

MyRepublic’s policy of not imposing download speed limits to stay after takeover: StarHub

Published Aug 20, 2025, 05:54 PM
Updated Aug 20, 2025, 09:18 PM

SINGAPORE - StarHub, which completely took over the broadband business of MyRepublic on Aug 12, has broken silence on the latter’s no-throttling policy, assuring concerned customers that they will continue to enjoy this feature.

Throttling is the imposition of speed limits on international downloads.

Since its launch in 2011, MyRepublic has cosied up to users by promising no throttling, allowing users to experience little lag in surfing, gaming and video streaming.

Mr Matt Williams, StarHub’s consumer business group chief, confirmed in a media briefing on Aug 20 that MyRepublic customers will face no throttling.

“Just to be crystal clear, MyRepublic broadband service will continue as it is – great quality, super fast and absolutely reliable,” said Mr Williams.

Since the acquisition was announced on Aug 12, several MyRepublic customers voiced concerns on whether the internet service provider’s no-throttling policy would be affected. Some said they would switch operators if their surfing slowed down or if the price of their current plans increased.

Mr Williams also referenced policy wording on StarHub’s website stating that it implemented network management for fixed broadband during peak usage hours to ensure fair and consistent access for all users on its network.

The website also said: “StarHub employs network management to ensure no protocols, applications and users should dominate the finite network resources.”

This page on network management for fixed broadband could not be found on Aug 20.

Mr Williams said that StarHub “does not really throttle services”, and the policy is there to give the telco the right to take action if someone was abusing the network by spamming and flooding it with data.

“We will be changing what that says because we don’t want that to be the perception, because that is not what we deliver,” he added.

In a statement to The Straits Times, a StarHub spokeswoman said that it does not throttle customers’ connections under normal circumstances.

“Network management measures are applied only in exceptional or emergency cases, to protect service quality for all. This reflects our longstanding commitment to fair, consistent and reliable connectivity,” the spokeswoman said.

ST has asked for the circumstances in which network management measures would kick in.

The spokeswoman said that StarHub “may take appropriate action in rare cases of sustained network abuse”.

“As we integrate MyRepublic broadband, our focus is on bringing the best of both companies together. Any future updates will be shared transparently, and always with our customers’ interests at heart,” she added.

Network engineer Askar Mujhib, who has been a MyRepublic customer since 2022, was relieved to hear that StarHub will not be throttling network speeds.

The 27-year-old avid gamer had switched from Singtel to MyRepublic because of the latter’s no-throttling policy.

On MyRepublic’s network, he can download 60GB games in about 15 minutes. He said he used to spend an hour doing similar tasks on Singtel’s network.

“I’m working a full-time job, so those precious moments waiting to download a file or game could be converted to playing the game,” he added.

Combined, StarHub and MyRepublic have 578,000 fixed broadband subscribers. They come second after market leader Singtel, which has 680,000 broadband subscribers. M1 trails behind with 223,000 subscribers.

I don't believe that when a business buys over and says oh we are not going to meddle and make any changes to it forever.

Maybe now they see its profitable now so they buy it completely, but come one day someone might say "hey we need to get more profits out from there you know" - so how? just start to meddle with how things will run to get more revenue.

Business is business - they can promise anything but if it affects their revenue, they will do things to improve it, which will affect us consumers.

I wouldn't believe in anything they claim whatsoever - I only know that if i am not happy I can bring my money elsewhere once my contract is up.

I believe this buy over is also to reduce number of competitors in the market so they can start to adjust higher price to earn more.

Anyway, the moment MyRepublic behave like Starhub, i will leave them immediately.
