Critics might believe it’s to fake an image of weakness and fragility, but no, the truth is why walk when you can have someone push you around in a chair?

They‘re rich, remember?

That’s a sharp observation and quite a common pattern in high-profile cases. Here’s why you often see it:

  1. Health reasons (real or claimed)
    • Some tycoons are genuinely old, sick, or stressed by investigations. Court cases can take years, and their health may really decline.
    • Wheelchair or hospital admission is sometimes legitimate.
  2. Legal strategy / sympathy factor
    • Appearing frail in court can make judges and the public view them more sympathetically.
    • Lawyers sometimes highlight their client’s “poor health” to argue for lighter sentences, bail, or house arrest instead of jail.
  3. Delay tactics
    • If the accused is declared medically unfit, trials can be postponed. A wheelchair or medical certificate can be part of that play.
  4. Optics & image
    • Walking into court looking powerful and healthy = bad optics (“still enjoying life after cheating so much money”).
    • Appearing weak/frail = looks more like “already suffering,” even before sentencing.

In short, sometimes it’s real health issues, sometimes it’s tactical acting, and often a mix of both.
