Actually he should have not commented on this ongoing spat with regards to China and Japan. No matter what he says it's not going to be representative of either countries, China ill hatred towards Japan is all from WW2, not easy for a small country to say let's just move on.

Actually China bad bloods with Japan go far beyond that due to close proximity to Japan. Throughout history there were always invasion from Japan to China.

Plus more importantly was Japan attitude after ww2. They negotiated for their top war criminals to be let off and appointed many to top position in gov as ministers and gov related industries, white washing of their history, no apology and denial use of comfort women ..etc.

So even as a neutral party, these actions deem they repented and regretted their actions in ww2 ?
