In SG I think the SG courts have been the final arbitrator.

It will be difficult for moderator to convince the users to take part in this exercise, verifying their age using SingPass.

Even you tell me is very safe, many users like me will think that we do have a choice not to verify age via SingPass.

90+% of posts blocked has nothing to do with 18+ content. If it is used for political censorship and surveillance purpose, there is no point to verify.

If it functions properly by censoring actual 18+ content, those content are super rare and most of us here have no real desire to read them, so no need to verify either.

Sorry, but the reality is I haven’t seen KYM threads in EDMW for the longest time yet.

Using KYM threads as an excuse to have this Singpass verification is a big stretch.

As for lewd or crude comments, I have typed some keywords which are blocked because higher mortals dislike them. These words are neither lewd nor crude.

Outside China this is largely unheard of. South Korea IIRC at one point did have such a mandate for large social media sites. But it was scrapped several years ago.

The other examples are not so much country driven but corporate or private policy.

Facebook technically requires usage of one's real name, but enforcement is spotty. They will ask for photo ID verification if a dispute arises or there is suspicious behavior.

Ebay does also require photo ID if you get flagged. Ditto paypal. I had to send them my passport info.

There are also niche special interest groups which require ID for participation. Some competitive gamer groups and top clans - especially in games like Eve Online demand photo ID and passport if you want to join their elite groups because of the stakes.

I agree with you.

It is more likely that people will just ignore those posts that the system AI deems to be harmful and need age verification.

It would also mean members would need to change the way they post and the content they post in order to get seen.

This is a positive step towards better content on the forum.
