Hi Hardwarezone members, I went through the whole registration process just so I can keep my promise to the PC Dreams repair guy that I would put in a good word for him on this forum.
I was encountering extremely random blue screens on my laptop, so I went to quite a number of repair shops in Sim Lim Square. All of them just tried using the laptop, and looked at it. To my frustration, they suggested different causes for the problem. And to be able to pin-point the exact cause, they asked me to leave the laptop with them for about a week or so, and told me there would be a minimum assessment fee of 50-100 dollars. When each of them gave this option, I would leave the shop and look for another one.
Finally, I got to the PC Dreams store and to my surprise and delight of course, the repairman did not only check my laptop by turning it on, using it, etc., but also opened it up to check the parts. All of this was part of their protocol for troubleshooting. Then he tried to remove the added RAM and tested for blue screen occurences. Apparently, this solved the problem and they didn't occur anymore. He even pointed me to the store where I can claim the warranty for the spoilt RAM and offered to put it back for me. The best thing was, when I asked him how much the charge for that was, he said it was for free.
It may have been a pretty simple job, but I praise this shop because of:
1. The very friendly and helpful repair guy and staff
2. Going an extra step to help the customer. Other shops would start charging you once they open up your computer
3. Their ability to diagnose, locate the problem, and present a solution PROPERLY. I'm sure if it wasn't the RAM, he would have gone to examine the other parts as well.
Hope this helps some of you. Cheers!
