hi, when do you ask for waiver?

after the annual fee charged in your monthly bill or before ?

sorry, newbie question.

Usually i cancel and re-apply.

While it might be a little harder to get them to waive fees if you never used your card at all, most of the time they still will out of "goodwill" to keep you as a customer. :)

Since I don't keep track of when the annual fee waiver expires, I usually wait till it's charged, then call up the cc companies.

As long as one uses the CC now and then, I think it is no problem getting a waiver. Still, frankly I don't know what is the magic minimum amount needed to be spent before a waiver is allowed.

Not really necessary to spend on the cc. Most of the time, as highlighted above, they will waive it for you.

OK I had a bad experience with HSBC then as they refused to waive it as I dind't use the cc at all, and unless I made one purchase within a month. Maybe there in my cc record was the word "gullible" next to my name! :)

i heard there are some rules change in waiver guidelines now.

but say, if no change........

1) for manual waiver, can call to request however subject to approval
2) have to see you are being billed on annual fee then can request.
3) for auto waiver, need to spend a min amount for respective cards.
4) clear 500 credit cards only students can waive annual fee

No, I believe they will be most glad to waive it for you.

When did the new guidelines take effect?

Simple way is cut the card into half and posts it back using the return envelope. Few days later they will call you.
