Don't worry too much about programming. For DISM, the foundation programming language they use to start you off is indeed Java. They do not expect you to come in with programming experience. Lessons are progressive. My personal advice is not to sit behind the class during Java lessons and play games. Sit in front and ask questions during class if you don't understand (this applies to any module if you want to do well actually).

Actually for DISM, we do less programming than DIT students. Purpose of learning programming is to be able to understand flaws in the code that people write.

IDA scholarship wise, I can't advise you since it came in a batch after mine. My batch is the 3rd, graduating this year.

Hmm okay. Hows your GPA so far? I'm keen on taking the IDA scholarship, but worried over the fact that i can't score well for my GPA although i am pretty sure i won't be using my laptop for gaming in class xD.

Another question i just remembered is that i just bought my laptop recently, its possible to use it for my poly schooling right?

Cool! Hahas, i got loads(well not really) of of questions to ask x.x
How are the programming lessons? Are they hard? I have family members that are in the IT field too, they told me programming is pretty hard to understand and Java is the easiest. I'm reading up on Java programming now while waiting for the school to start but some parts i just don't get it -,-

Also, how is the IDA scholarship like? Minimum GPA and the consequences of not meeting the target?

for uni side... IDA scholarship if cannot meet minimum gpa, they will monitor you.. if it comes to the point you cannot ever meet their min, then they will chop u off :(

but NIS is quite a good scholarship wor..

When they chop you off, you just need to pay for the amount of money they invested on you or? Im scared that they chop me off too X(. I find the IIS/NIS scholarship pretty good too, it planned out your future for you already. And since nowadays the economy isnt very good, its like reserving a place for you in the workforce already. Plus they pay for your academics, and i think my parents and my sis are still paying for her masters.

3.615 for past 5 sems. Not sure if this last sem can pull up, since NUS doesn't count the last one :/

Laptop wise, shouldnt be a prob. In fact, some of get by on netbooks if lazy to bring notebook. You may get to see me if you go for notebook config, I'll be working for the last time there :)

you will pay for the amount they invested + interest. they will tell you specifically when you sign the bond with them, my advise is to apply the scholarship first, anytime before signing bond you can say reject. :o

Alright! Hope to see you! XD. 3.6 for GPA is considered quite good already right? (I heard from my senior at AE that his course scholarship requires a minimum GPA of 3.6. Using that as a gauge i guess you did pretty well already?). He said that if you constantly study, a 3.6 isn't hard to get too. I won't mind mugging for the course too, i'm those more guai guai students i guess LOL

Are you sure? Normally they have 4 brands for you to choose from.

Can be any of the following, judging from past few years:

Fujitsu
Acer
HP
Lenovo
Apple

I am using the y560! Just bought it recently at Challenger. My another senior told me this, if you're going to use the laptop for gaming purposes also, buying it from outside is better

Just throw in any certifications you have, directly relevant to IT or not. Don't forget CCA records if you have.

Please don't get Fujitsu or Acer. Had enough of friends complaining about both brands.

Ah, ok, got what you meant.

Feel free to get one outside yourself. Only small drawback to this is that you will be stuck configuring your notebook for a few hours before sch starts compared to those who get a sch notebook since it is already preconfigured. It is a personal choice actually.
