I was reading the SGS Kernel flasher app.... it says :
backup kernel: creates an update.zip (for recovery) containing a backup of the current kernel with time and date in /sdcard/sgs-kernel-flasher/backup/
When using ASTRO to view the files directories, I noticed that the contents of directory /mnt/sdcard/ is the same as /sdcard/ can you help shed some light on this area? (All the while I've been meddling with folder & files in /mnt/sdcard)
Yes, for all Android phones /mnt/sdcard is the standard. For those that have internal memory accessible in mass storage mode, the internal memory is /mnt/sdcard. The external sdcard has different locations, dependent on the model. There's /mnt/sdcard/external_sd for SGS, /mnt/emmc for CM7 roms and so on. Internal is fixed at /mnt/sdcard so that apps that rely on offloading files to locations outside /data can use a fixed location. It's a bit hard to understand, but you don't have to understand it.
So in a nutshell, correct me if I'm wrong :
- SGS Kernel Flasher to backup current kernal (rfs file system) as an update.zip file. This app can be used to flash back this update.zip backup in order to revert back to stock kernel.
Yes, this is how it works for SGS. It *should* work for the Tab as well, given they share the same flashing methods, but I have not done it before.
- After flashing the "Overcome" Kernel + CWM, it will be possible to boot phone into Recovery mode to do a Nandroid Backup of the current ROM. With this backup, I can revert back to stock ROM using Odin??? or just do from the custom recovery?
With the backup, you can revert back to stock rom via the custom recovery. Kernel and recovery remains of the custom type, which u *should* be able to revert back to stock with the abovementioned update.zip done by SGS Kernel flasher in CWM recovery.
Ahhhh... almost there.... before I start flashing tonight. If this goes through smoothly... then I'll be familiar enough to do the same for the SGS and LG 2X.
Thanks again for your advise & patience. (which seems to be quite short for some others in the forum)
Good luck. I don't usually provide such help.

But I can see you took effort to read up instead of the numerous others who just like to be spoonfeed. I just hope I'm not giving the wrong advice, please the other Tab owners correct me if wrong.
I also just received a LG 2X review unit, gonna read up more on hacking it...
