same here, very slow loading or not loading, but the weird finding is direct connection (without router) works fine...

same for hidemyass.com also not working behind routers

both use the same cachefly.net server

Name: arstechnica.cachefly.net
Address: 204.93.150.150
Aliases: static.arstechnica.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: hidemyass.cachefly.net
Address: 204.93.150.150

however with the same router config on starhub fiber, both the page load without any issue. not sure is zhone issue or VQ connection issue

The issue here is basically due to the new IP address block that we are using. We are working with the various network operators to sort the issue out.

Will take a bit of time as they are slow to respond.

You should have not problem accessing those sites. We do not block any of the mentioned sites.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I'm not referring to accessing the websites of Unblock-US or UnoDNS, but rather access to their DNS servers.

These sites offer a commercial service that lets you connect to their DNS servers to access region-blocked content like Netflix, Hulu etc., without sacrificing speeds when using commercial VPN services.

You just need to sign up for a fixed monthly subscription fee, change the DNS settings on your PC, router or Internet-enabled device (Apple TV, game console, Smart TV) and that's it.

It seems that SingNet and Starhub users are unable to use the DNS servers of Unblock-US due to usage of transparent proxy servers or "DNS hijacking" techniques, although MyRepublic fibre users seem to be ok.

For UnoDNS, it seems that SingNet users are blocked, while M1 fibre users are ok.

I understand that Viewqwest is testing commercial VPN services, but wonder if you will block access to such DNS services.

Just weighing my options before I take my plunge to fibre...!

Hi there,

I just signed up for ViewQwest 200/100 plan and I am only averaging around 70 Mb/s download and 65 Mb/s upload when wired. It was briefly about 98 Mb/s down and 65 Mb/s upload when tested by the technician.

The technician indicated that these are normal speeds for the 200/100 plan. Can anyone confirm?

Is it also correct that the difference between the 200Mb/s plan and the 100Mb/s plan is quite small in practice?

Thanks for any help.

Hi ViewQwest,

I'm scheduled to have my home set up for your service end of this month, but the recent posts about network inaccessibility or latency, is giving me second thoughts.

Besides general web surfing and BT, one of the critical functions of home broadband is to allow me to access my company's VPN servers. I'm just concerned that when my home is finally set up, and if I encounter such access problems and you folks take a long time to resolve, can I terminate my service without penalty?

Hello McSmokes,

Just need to check some things with you first as there may be several factors at play here.

When you ran the tests, how were you connected? Wired directly to the ONU, wired through your own router or via wireless?

If you are using a wired connection, what kind of network cable are you using? If you are using your own router, can you let me know the manufacturer and model?

To answer your last question: No, with Viewqwest the difference between the 200Mb/s and the 100Mb/s plan is 100Mb/s both in theory and in practice. We don't believe in misleading consumers by telling them they can achieve certain speeds when in reality they can't. You get what you pay for.

With regards to the network inaccessibility, this is basically affecting customers who are on our new IP address range. We are able to resolve the issue for affected users by issuing them an IP address from a different range.

We do offer no contract plans for our 200mbps service for users to try out our service.

We do not block any external DNS servers. Neither do we do any hijacking of ports.

Our VPN service is to make life easier for our customers. We are not the the "big evil" to block access to such services just so that customers use our VPN service.

Yes that is possible. However, you should be careful when doing that as the fiber patch cord can be quite fragile. You would also need to source for a patch cord that is long enough, as the patch cord we supply is only 3m long.

Ok this might be quite a complicated post. So if i am not very clear feel free to ask more.

OpenNet is responsible for ensuring that the optical loss from the FTP port in your home to the exchange is at a certain level. This is the level that we as an Opco require in order for GPON technology to work. If the signal is not strong enough the link will not work.

That being said the length of the patch cord in relation to the distance between your home and the exchange is very small so the impact on optical loss should be almost non existent.

So i would say it is very unlikely that this would not work. As long as it works there will be no degradation in network speed.

I read up on ur Freedom VPN service. It's interesting as it allows access to restricted sites. Wouldnt MDA object to this service on the basis that it allows singapore subscribers to access MDA-banned websites(i.e Playboy)?
