Actually IMO 750Mbps is good enough because most 2.4GHZ Wireless N Client Adapters are only 2 Stream Capable.
Only a few like Intel 6300 and the 3 stream Bigfoot negotiates 450Mbps, so it is quite pointless have 3 stream on 2.4GHZ if your Client is only 300Mbps capable in a congested environment.

n66 is 3-stream on both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. n56 is 2-stream on 2.4 and 3-stream on 5.0.

Like that N56 is more than enough to me. 2.4ghz devices like ipad cant do 3 stream also. No point moving to N66 then.

Did anyone compare wireless speed of both models? How close are they?

I seem to be unable to save the settings in the "DHCP Server" page.
Setting the "Enable Manual Assignment?" to Yes and changing the IP Pool addresses and clicked "Apply", seems to have no effect at all.

The dropdown list for the MAC address doesn't show anything at all as well.

Anyone else facing the same issue?

Am using firmware 3.0.0.3.112

Managed to fix this by doing a hard reset of the router.
Alternatively, clearing the NVRAM will work too.

M1 fiber

Newbie here. How to connect to M1 100Mb fiber with voice (in Level 1 of house) ? How to use the 2wire5012 as repeater or AP (in Level 2) if is possible. There is no wiring for LAN connections in the house. Also have a zysel WAP3205 and linksys WRT54G, will they be of any used for level 3 of house etc ? Thanks for answering

This is just for info sharing.
Actually there is no physical NVRAM on the Router.
They just partition the flash into 2 or more.
1) The smaller partition to contain the settings (NVRAM)
2) The larger partition to contain the firmware.

Question on VPN access

iuxYb8mgseLLU.jpg

Viewquest is providing Freedom VPN to access US sites with a VPN wireless router. I don't really want to give up my RT-N66U Dark . Has anyone worked out how to work with their device alongside RT-N66U ? I am surprised that there's no option in RT-N66U to configure US VPN access? Or is there ?

Thanks

they are using port 2 of the zhone, i was thinking u can still use port 1 for your normal internet (RT-N66U) and plug another wifi router to port 2 of zhone for the vpn.

Latest 151 firmware is available. Seems to be the best and fastest firmware to date (gives fastest speed). Will be looking to update the firmware this weekend.

Is it offically available to the public yet ? Can't find it on the Asus site.

I'm thinkin if those cheap 7db antennas from china will work with this router as I'm not gonna be a carrot and pay tens of dollars at sls for each antenna whereby they prolly got it from
China too for couple of dollars each
