Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Announced!

Since paperwhite is same price as nook simple touch w/ glow light online, may i know how these two products compared to each other for e-book reading..anyone who have physically experienced both? I know there are many reviews on google, but most felt like ads to me.

also, is vpost the best way if i want to buy the reader? how much roughly would the total cost be?

im a nook all-time fan. had 1st generation nook till the latest. getting the paperwhite to try how good it is as compared to nook simple touch.

The specs of the Paperwhite are better, in this current product cycle. The resolution is now 1024x765 with better contrast, compared to 800x600.

Then in the future Nook will come out with the same specs and the cycle continues lol. But it looks like this Kindle upgrade is the most substantial in quite a long while according to the reviews.

I own a glowlight. I must say the things said in this review about glowlight is correct. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite review -- Engadget
My biggest gripe is the screen un-even-ness. (not talking about the light, its the screen itself) some area have better contrast than other.
As stated on the review, the lighing is also not very even. Its very obvious that the top part is where the light is.

My paperwhite still on the way, so can not confirm about kindle part, but I think should be true also.

just as my kindle case changed to shipping soon 2 days ago, my paperwhite, which say it will be shipped on the week of 22nd, is already in transit

now the case will arrive after the kindle. and hopefully the case will be frustration free packaging as well

Waaa. so good. My kindle is delivering much earlier than expected. But my leather case the delivery date never change at all. sian. They are like 1 month apart from each other. lol. I somemore pre-order at the same time.

So seems likethere is not much difference in getting the kindle elsewhere other than amazon....all here bought from Amazon? Anyone has any other cheaper alternative? Thks

Best is just order yourself. So much cheaper. rather than ordering from other 3rd party sellers who will definitely charge you a ridiculous mark up price in some incidences.

Did u guys drop by mobilereads to see the user reviews? alot of them complained of uneven lighting at the bottom of the screen, in other words, blotches of lighting.

Below is a photo taken by Engadget, nook simple touch on left, kindle PW on the right. Notice the blotches at the bottom of the PW. May not seem obvious in this photo.

I'm now contemplating to cancel my order. Maybe I should.

I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing fault or just meant be?

well, u can forgive them as this is the first kindle with lighting. its already quite good, better than nook which just put in light and sell u the thing. you can always wait for paperwhite 2. yea technology advanced but sometimes not as fast as you think.

btw, CGW just told me as of 1st Sept, creation of shipment will not award you any CGW dollars anymore. )=

never a ebook reading person. trying to go into some reading. so pondering wifi or 3G. but does intend to get the no ad version..

also exploring internet to learn how to buy from amazon. Though troublesome, but sure am cheaper than you get from those sg shops or blogs.

Not worth it to get the 3G version IMHO. You most likely will only be downloading books on your Kindle, which can be done via wifi. Also, the screen refresh rates on an E-ink reader makes browsing the web on 3G almost .. unusable. Yes you can use it but it'll be annoying. And there's a cap of 50 MB / month IIRC.

expositox, yep I do agree also lah. not really intend to use it for surf net. Like you say, the eink to surf really is a pain. ;>
just thinking that "if" can just download book from amazon using a US address and sg CC, maybe useful to have a 3G version.....

But to think of it, how often will 1 person download book just anywhere???

will probably get a no ad wifi version after understanding all the "tricks" need to know before getting 1 set.. ;>

Put in my purchase for the paperwhite & case. Stated there estimated delivery 4 to 6 weeks, 06 Nov to 20 Nov.
Now they limit 2 sets per person.

to be fair, nook also did not just put light and sell it. The main technology behind glowlight is the special coating layer on top of the e-ink screen that supposed to help the light spread out evenly.
In reality, while this coating help spread out the light, it also decreases the screen contrast. and im guessing that if the spraying not that even, you will get much worse contrast on area where the coating is thicker.

amazon avoided this problem bt utilizing flat fiber optic instead of spraying coating.

My CGW dollars is from a facebook promo. not from shipment.
