i'm curious. how did she put it across to you? she is usually the friendlier one i feel. instead, dylan is the dao one (except of course the very first time i visited him at his old shop when he was without any assistant).

dylan's workmanship is without a doubt fantastic. his measurements are okay, just above average. he however needs to work on his service. maybe i'm not his regular, but i just don't get the comfortable feel i experience with other tailors.

she was indeed the friendlier one when i stepped in. dylan, who was there when i arrived, only exchanged greetings/words, took my measurements, and left shortly after.

i spent a lot of time looking at the fabric, before finally managing to choose 4 out of 5 items (2 shirts/2 pants). in the process i think she got frustrated that i was taking too much time and appeared indecisive.

i think there might also be some miscommunication as i commented that i thought dylan would be more involved in the process by giving direction and recommending. (it seemed to me all the choices were up to me, she was just taking down my order with minimal input)

by this time she got agitated, raised her voice (not to the shouting level, but definitely change of tone), and said that if i wanted to talk to dylan i could make another appointment and come back as nothing she said will influence my decision, and it was already past closing time. as i mentioned previously, she also said i was wasting her time, and not serious about buying.

i was really taken aback when i heard all of this and had a loss for words.

on Dylan's website/blog, it is written and I quote "The sartorial experience should be fun and enjoyable; and not leave you feeling exhausted and brain-dead by the end of the session."

this was definitely not what i experienced yesterday. in fact, it couldn't have been further from my expectations.

Yeah, she is pretty friendly and chatty too. Maybe it was just too late for her. Well all of us have our emotions at times. Forgive her this time, okay?

Well in terms of measurements, she is still very amatuer, but definitely learning (I guess Dylan teaches her as well). So if you don mind a slighty new amatuer to measure you, no harm. After all the work is still done outsourced at the same place.

Overall, as I highlighted earlier, Dylan's works are above average in the local context, but he also charges a premium for his works. So its an individual taste if you would still like to patronise him.

Also as mentioned, relationship with your tailor is a long term one, you would want your tailor to understand your needs and requirements and fit you accordingly. No point going to many tailors to try this and that. No doubt I agree that many tailors cut differently, but ultimately your aim is to stick to one, or 2 and stay with them. Only a regular tailor would be able to potentially maximise your wadrobe and also save you money in the long run.

that's why i was very impressed with the guys at tgt. standards not on par with the top tailors yet but given their effort, they will be someday.

Yeah. Their service is good, I hope they recruit an inhouse cutter or maybe one of them could go learn the art of cutting :s13:

Did you try charming her into giving input and guidance?

i did try at first; but decided to stop as i was wondering why i had to try to "win" her favour when i was the one paying money in the end.

being in the professional service line as well, where i am at customer's mercy and have to pander to their every whim; i would definitely want to be on the receiving end this time round!

I'm also somewhat in the service line but I think she does fine, at least with me. I'll just share some of my experience here for info.

At Dylan's, I also felt that she was the friendlier one. I didn't have to specifically ask her for suggestions etc though. I always have a problem with colors and would take forever to choose a fabric and she would automatically give suggestions. Have gone ahead with her suggestions and so far it has been a good experience. She was the one to take my measurements too and I felt it was fine.

The only "out-of-ordinary" service (?) I got was when I complained about the break of a newly made pair of pants not feeling right. She checked the records and said there's no error etc and was perplexed, without an idea how to proceed. I insisted it wasn't right. Dylan then took over and simply measured the pants. It was made wrongly. He said he will get it fixed and apologized. It was that simple but it somehow stumped her and I found it strange.

Other than that, all was well. I hope you get better service the next time, be it Dylan's or elsewhere. Sadly, I find that the service received by us consumers, from the same provider even, varies too much..... C'est la vie.

Question.

It is better to alter a blazer?

And it is better to get the pants from them as well so as both blazer and pants colour match?

Sharing a good lobang, so far the most valued for money with good workmanship shirt and pants that I have tailored made is from Mdm Neo at Defu lane. For more details, you can contact her at 82226856.

Received a few PMs for picture for shirts made from Mdm Neo,

have requested collar to be a bit wider then usual as I do not like collar to be "hugging" my neck

This is with buttons, have a few others with cuff link

Now pending the suit, blazer fits pretty well and the skull lining is pretty dope as well :) pants was absolutely spot on, just a quick alteration needed for the length and will be good to collect soon

Overall a very good experience with the double A team, they have been pretty accomodating with my "layman terms" requests. Hope they will keep the prices competitve and i am sure i will be back for more in the near future

Cheers :)

I think I saw your skull lining jacket. It's too bad that the suiting fabric has to be from the same brand too...

Thanks to all the bank money flowing to Dylan recently... :s13:

All top notch bankers opposite his place uses his services, if you can't spend big, better take ur $ elsewhere. If not can't blame the service as well.

Dear all,

I'm totally newbie to tailoring - and i am looking for a tailor to make my Wedding Suit as well as a shirt.
I am not fussy on top quality (just need decent materials).
What i'm looking for is good service, good fitting & importantly good price (bordering on cheap).
Kindly recommend some that i can do further homework on.
Really appreciate lots!

Did TGT explain why the lining need to be from the same brand as the suiting?

Yep. Basically, importing it isn't very economical for them and perhaps the distributor requires some sort of package or MOQ etc. Understandably, scale can be a barrier of entry for "small-timers" to purchase certain stuff. I face the same sort of problems in my line of work too and there's not much that procurement/purchase can help when the order's small and/or uncertain. We're at the mercy of the big guys holding on to the goods we need...
