Charges in sg$ earns 1.2miles / $
Charges in foreign currency is 2 miles /$

Besides the DCC exchange rate is always lousier than the exchange rates that bank uses

From UOb PRivi to Citi PremierMiles to HSBC infinite .... You get more when you spent overseas and must charge them in foreign currencies.

Okay I got it, the DCC does actually charge direct in SGD instead of using a fixed exchange rate (shown upfront to user) to charge from Overseas Currency to SGD.

Has anybody else notice that you don't get the amount of points based on the amount you get charged for payments in foreign currency? I charged mostly in foreign currency and notice that i get 3% less points than the final amount i get billed, it seem that UOB don't give points for the 3.25% charge that they add on for foreign currency transaction. Example you get charged USD1000, UOB bill you for SGD1260, you only get points for SGD1220 or so. Its really petty of UOB to count this way.

Few times I actually tallied my points, I didn't notice this. A possible reason for the less points could be due to rounding (UOB awards points per $5, $5.00 and $9.99 will earn the same amount of points). For foreign charges on this card, you are earning 6.25 UNI$ per $5. They calculate per transaction and then round down the UNI$, per transaction.

So, if you are charged $12 in SGD, you are awarded 12 UNI$ (6.25 UNI$ x 2 = 12.5 UNI$, rounded down = 12 UNI$)

Yes, so long as it is less than 3 months, you can use the limo cab:

http://www.uob.com.sg/assets/pdfs/limousine_booking_tnc.pdf

1. This service is only available for Principal Cardmembers. Principal Cardmembers must charge a prior travel-related transaction (limited to air ticket bookings, hotel bookings or any travel package from a travel or tour agency) to their UOB PRVI Miles Platinum Cards to qualify for the complimentary one-way limousine service to Singapore Changi Airport (the “Service”). The qualifying travel-related transaction must be charged in advance and must be within three (3) months of the date of travel. In the event the Principal Cardmember utilizes the Service without charging a prior travel-related transaction to the Principal Cardmember’s Card, UOB will charge S$40 for the Service to the Principal Cardmember’s Card.

I already account for round down, not possible because my transaction is usually in 4 figures thus the rounding down has very little impact to my points, less than 0.5%. Cannot account for the 3% lesser points, only possible explanation is that UOB does not give points for the 3.25% that was added on to foreign currency exchange.

the rounding applies to individual transactions and not on the total sum.

say DCC is not a factor, will Amex prvi 2.5 miles be better than say Citi PM 2 miles? considering Amex charge a higher conversion fee for foreign currency

overseas spending more miles i guess ? so they rec by the currency not the merchant itself ? buying online stuff in foreign currency is considered overseas spending ?

If you're charged in foreign currency, it is considered overseas spending.

If you are saying that each transaction is 4 figures, then you are probably right. Have you called up and asked them? Honestly, I find it quite odd, but I could be wrong.

Citi is 2.5%, so you are essentially paying 0.75% for the 0.5 miles/$ more, or 0.75c for 0.5 miles, or 1.5c per mile. If you do a quick search online, people value KF miles at about 2c per mile, so it's pretty good value.

thanks suleyman, one more question, how about ANZ travel visa? I scanned through their website, only found admin fee of 1.5% for cross border transactions. if that's the case, wouldn this card be superior than amex prvi?

Until 31 March, yes, because of the on-going promo earning 2.8 miles/$ for overseas transactions.

If they do not extend the promo (it was originally up to 31 Dec), then it will only earn 1.4 miles/$. According to ANZ T&Cs, you will be charged Visa fee + ANZ fee (which is 1.25%). Visa fee is typically 1%, so should be total of 2.25%. In this case, UOB PRVI Miles is still better value; 1% more for 1.1 miles more.

Should be able to, cos they will not be able to tell if it is total fare or just for the taxes/surcharges. For example, if you are redeeming KF points from SIA and use card to pay for taxes, it will probably reflect in your statement as Singapore Airlines.

I just received a SMS from UOB. A minimum of of S$500 travel-related spend is needed to utilize the free airport transfer. SMS is as follows:

Effective from 1 April 2013, UOB PRVI Miles Principal Cardmembers must have a prior travel-related transaction of a minimum amount of S$500 to book the complimentary limousine transfer to Singapore Airport. Other T&Cs apply. Visit uobprvimiles.com for details.

I think you should be able to justify with the CSO that it is a travel-related expenses. Do note that a minimum spend of S$500 is required from 1 Apr onwards to enjoy the free airport transfer.

Cathay is 30 percent but sia had always been 2x percent via online booking right?

CX is having a promo now for selected destinations at 30% off. SIA has this permanent promo where it is 15% off when booked online. At times, when they have promotions to selected cities, it hovers around 20% to 30% off as well.
