The user access provided by viewqwest do the zhone does not seem to allow the user to reserve IP for devices.. I have many devices like scanner, printer, NAS, media player etc.. in which I want fixed IP to be given to them when they cannot..

How do I reserve IP for these devices?

For some of the devices, I hardcode the IP (if they allow me to) but for others, they do not allow and the viewqwest zhone seems to like to randomly assign IP instead of giving the same IP to the same device (which was previously connected at a specific IP).

Zhone with certain firmware version onwards does support DHCP reservation. You may want to contact VQ Support to check what is the firmware version your Zhone is running and what needs to be done.

I believe there is a FAQ guide in Fibernet forum on DHCP reservation.

You can leave the Zhone as a router and just connect it to your switch - no need to buy extra router. Provided it's a decent gigabit switch, your speed shouldn't be affected at all :)

Thank you.

That's what's I'm wondering too.will it be better to get an external router or is the default router good enough. Haven't searched the tech spec of the Zhone

Confused

Hi All,

New to the fibre world and have been reading the various threads on the various providers.

Is this "TP ---> ONT ---> Router" same as "FTP ---> Zhone ---> Router" (so the Zhone is the ONT?)

Also can I just use the "FTP ---> Zhone ---> PC/Laptop" ?

Lastly can someone let me know the model of the Zhone provided by VQ? Want to do some research on it.

Thanks.

That depends primarily on if you're planning to access via wired (Cat 5e/Cat 6) or Wi-Fi. If wired (which we HIGHLY recommend to get the best speeds :) ) the Zhone by itself can handle very well.

If need really fast wireless then we would advise into looking at getting a dedicated high-performance wireless router such as the Asus 66 series or Apple Extreme for example.

both of those are correct.

The Zhone is the ONT but it has a router function that can be turned on/off.

So if you'd prefer to use your own router it would be TP > Zhone > Router > PC/Laptop and if you don't you can do TP > Zhone > PC/Laptop.

The model we provide is the Zhone 2426 (Link! http://www.zhone.com/products/ZNID-GE-24xx/)

got banned on a tracker :( trying to signup again

static IP = accountability

If everyone keep doing things without taking into consideration the consequences, is there sufficient IPv4 addresses to keep going around with? What are the chance that the next person who gets that IP pays for the consequences of its previous user?

My concern as well. Then the next person who gets your IP will suffer from your mistake? Whatever you did to get banned, you deserved it. Now live with it.

I was about to like your comment but then, I thought... what is it were me? Ouch!!

Yet, I agree that just asking to be issued another IP isn't a great option considering it will impact the future bloke who is issued with a banned IP.

Can we hear VQ's stand please.

Thank you for the reply :)

Can we the normal users config the Zhone as bridge/router ourselves? Or do we need to call up u guys to trigger it on ur end? I believe it's just some local configuration done on our side right?

I tried forwarding TCP / UDP port 47282 for my torrents using the zhone 2426. I did everything the customer officer told me already, but when I used canyouseeme to check the port it still told me the port is closed. I have no firewall installed and I turned off windows firewall already. Anyone with port forwarding experience can help? Port forwarding always gives me a headache.

Hi,

i am currently looking at these two routers. I am looking for good range and signal (20 meters with walls in between). At the same time, I own 2 iPads Macbook Pro and Apple TV. Any advice on which to get?

I am wondering if there is any issue in airplay if I get a N66U.

Thanks in advance.

1. This has nothing to do with VQ, why are you trolling here?
2. You already asked this in your own thread, stop cross-posting.
