A new battle for ratings has started with two new drama premieres from SBS and MBC, “Man from the Stars” and “Miss Korea,” respectively. They go against incumbent, KBS’s “Beautiful Man.”
SBS’s new Wed-Thurs drama “Man from the Stars” has a strong debut getting 15.6% of the viewership according to the Nielson Korean Ratings. This is 4% increase in ratings from the debut of the previous SBS drama “The Heirs” which occupied the same time slot.
MBC’s new drama “Miss Korea” debuted with 7% of viewership, up 1.7% from the final episode of “Medical Top Team” ratings last Thursday.
KBS2′s “Beautiful Man” is still struggling with 3.5% of the viewership.
In the first episode of “Man from the Stars,” star actress Chun Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun) meets alien Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) for the first time in the elevator. Their first meeting doesn’t go so well as the star actress thinks that Do Min Joon is a pervert. The two fatefully meet again later in the episode at Chun Song Yi’s college.
The first episode of “Miss Korea” built the foundation of Ji Young (Lee Yeon Hee) and Hyung Joon‘s (Lee Sun Kyun) characters before the plot fully enters the challenge of making Ji Young a Miss Korea.
Actor Kim Soo Hyun comments about hoping for a kiss scene with actress Jun Ji Hyun has caught the attention of the public.
On the December 18 episode of SBS‘s “Night of TV Entertainment” stars Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun from the new drama “Man from the Stars” appeared for a sit down interview.
During the interview, Kim Soo Hyun was asked if he is hoping to have a kiss scene with Jun Ji Hyun since the two were playing a couple. The actor replied “I’m requesting the writers” and quickly covered his mouth believing he revealed too much. The interviewer jokingly replied, “The first time is hard but afterwards it’s…” which made the audience laugh. The two actors had actually filmed a kiss scene with each other in the 2012 movie “The Thieves.”
In a Korean Gallup poll asking for who the comedian is who shone the brightest in 2013, comedian Yoo Jae Suk took the number one spot. From November 1 to November 18, 1,704 males and females over the age of 13 were asked to name two comedians who they thought had the most exceptional year, and 34.6% of the participants named Yoo Jae Suk.
The comedian is currently hosting shows such as MBC’s “Infinity Challenge,” SBS’s “Running Man,” and KBS’s “Happy Together Season 3.”
For the Korean Gallup’s “People of This Year: Comedian” category, from 2005 to 2009, Yoo Jae Suk has been number one for five years running. He was briefly pushed to second place in 2010 and 2011, but starting last year, he is back in first place for the second year in a row, maintaining his title of Korea’s MC.
In second place with 15.8% of the votes is comedian Shin Bora. She started in 2010 through KBS’s open recruitment, and is currently spreading smiles and laughter through “Gag Concert.” Shin Bora is also known for her talented singing voice, and appeared on “Music Bank” on December 6 with her song, “Kkong Kkong.”
Dropping one spot since last year is Kim Joon Hyun in third place with 14.7%. Fourth is Kang Ho Dong with 11.2%, who is currently shooting SBS’s “Star King” and KBS’s “Our Neighborhood Sports.”
In fifth through tenth places, respectively, are Kim Jun Ho, Kim Ji Min, Kim Byung Man-Lee Soo Geun (tied for seventh), and Park Myung Soo.
