David Moyes has reiterated again that "there'll be more players like Juan in the future. There's no doubt about that."

and

Mata says he was desperate to come to United as soon as he heard the club were interested: "I just wanted to go to a place where I knew I'd feel happy and I'm happy now. United is a massive club - it's the club in England with the most fans around the world. It's a big step and I think everything will be fine... with the players we have and the players that will come in the summer."

Finally he is among the 2 players interested in signing for Man Utd. The other 1 was Fellaini.

Manchester United to make Wayne Rooney captain AND pay him around
£300k-a-week AND brief him on transfers

Jan 26, 2014 22:31 By David McDonnell

Club's attempts to convince star to sign proposed four-year deal would see him take over the armband from departing Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra

Wayne Rooney will be made Manchester United captain if he commits himself to the club by signing a new deal.

As revealed by Mirror Sport, the England star wants to stay at Old Trafford, and preliminary talks have already begun between his agent Paul Stretford and the club.

Striker Rooney will be offered a new four-and-a-half year deal worth around £300,000-a-week, with the armband as an added incentive.

And the champions' top brass have already shown their commitment to the England star by ensuring he knew all about their record-breaking move for Juan Mata in advance.

The 28-year-old was also informed of manager David Moyes’ other plans for this transfer window and the summer.

Both current skipper Nemanja Vidic and vice-captain Patrice Evra are poised to leave the club at the end of this season, when they will be out of contract.

United boss Moyes has long seen Rooney as captaincy material and will offer him the chance to lead the club into a new era of success.

With Rio Ferdinand also set for the exit door at the end of the season, Rooney will become one of the elder statesmen in United's cosmopolitan squad.

Old Trafford officials hope their club-record £37.1million capture of Mata from Chelsea will convince Rooney to commit his future to the Reds.

Rooney’s next contract is likely to be the last mega-money deal of his stellar career and United are prepared to reward their leading striker accordingly.

The England international looked set to quit in October 2010 after refusing to sign a new deal, citing the club's perceived lack of ambition.

While he was persuaded to put pen to paper, the club have fingers crossed that, by keeping him fully abreast of their transfer strategy and targets this time, they have transformed the situation and ensured Rooney wants to become a cornerstone of the next stage of the Old Trafford project.

Moyes remained coy on whether he would be able to make any more signings in addition to Mata before the closure on the window at 11pm on Friday.

“I don’t think we’ll have any more in January,” said the Scot. “I’m still working on it and looking to do things.

“We know exactly what we’d like to do and if it changes in the last week, which sometimes it can do, then we’ll try. I hope it will be the first of some new signings that will arrive, but more likely in the summer.”

was abt to type this on hwz when i read this thread on redcafe:

Did we Save a Warchest for Dave? | RedCafe.net

i think this is possible as well.. where SAF was saving e cash for the next utd manager.. if so, great planning by him

not jus saving the money but also restructing work to be done by Dave himself. getting his own players.
edit: then again like the reply below..we did spend on RVP and Kagawa. so the saving up theory is kinda overthrown.

an audacious bid to bring ronnie boy home perhaps? =:p

if we are offering Rooney 300k. u would need 4-500k for Ron.
so we will need to spend like 150m to buy him plus contract? lol we will wipe out any warchest we have for next few years...

true.. but given our profits, n future commercial deals like nike, and our net spend over e past few seasons... i think SAF could have spent more if he wanted to

Moyes Surprised Chelsea Sell Mata To Man Utd
Post date : 2014-01-27

Manchester United boss David Moyes has admitted surprise that Chelsea sold them Juan Mata.

Mata penned terms with United on Saturday.

Moyes, who said he would probably look to get Mata involved in Tuesday night's Premier League game against Cardiff, said it was a surprise that the deal was able to be done mid-season.

"I never felt that we would get that opportunity, I wasn't sure that Chelsea would ever sell him to us. Thankfully we got there and I am delighted he is here.

"I'm a bit surprised because it's not something that tends to happen especially between Premier League teams. I was surprised when it happened but we have got a really exciting player, a player I'm looking forward to working with, a player I think everybody in football looked at and says he did a great job for Chelsea.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him in a red jersey and doing it for us."

Premier League: Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney back for Manchester United | Football News | Sky Sports

"They have all trained today," said United boss David Moyes, who could also have midfielder Marouane Fellaini back after wrist surgery.
On Adnan:
Meanwhile, the United boss has dismissed rumours of a big-money bid for teenage sensation Adnan Januzaj from Paris St-Germain.

"I think you have been listening to too much speculation," said Moyes to a question about Januzaj's future.

"Adnan is very much part of what we are doing and it will continue to be that way."
On Rooney:
And Moyes side-stepped questions over the future of Rooney, whose contract expires in 2015 but has been linked with a massive extension, that could net him £300,000 a week.

"It is one I have left with (executive vice-chairman) Ed Woodward and Wayne and his advisors," said Moyes.

"We will give you an update on it at the right time. Right now I would prefer to talk about his performances."

Cannot blame the folks too. We did undercut the value of some of the players we were going for. Also, I believe the money from Ronaldo sale was not used much. People started to think that it was used to service the loan which in actual fact probably happened. Mata is a signal of intent. Question now is, how much do we have left?
