Intel Core i7 "Haswell-E" and X99 Motherboards Launch Date Revealed

Intel is expected to launch its next flagship Core i7 HEDT (high-end desktop) processors, codenamed "Haswell-E" along with compatible motherboards based on the company's X99 Express chipset, on the 29th of August, 2014. The platform will introduce DDR4 system memory to the consumer space. On that day, Intel's new processors, compatible motherboards, and DDR4 memory modules should be ready to buy off the shelf.

Intel's Core i7 "Haswell-E" processor lineup will include three parts, two six-core, and one eight-core. Leading the pack will be the Core i7-5960X, featuring eight cores based on the "Haswell" micro-architecture, with HyperThreading enabling 16 logical CPUs; a staggering 20 MB of shared L3 cache, and 3.00 GHz clock speed. It will command a four-figure price. Next up, is the Core i7-5930K, featuring six cores, HyperThreading enabling 12 logical CPUs, 15 MB of shared L3 cache, and 3.50 GHz clocks. This chip will be priced anywhere between $500 and $750. The most affordable chip will be the Core i7-4820K, which will be a six-core chip. Its other specs are unclear. It is expected to be priced between $350 and $450.

More poison hoots coming end of this month/next month :D

Well, as an end user, my only concern is that my internet is working. And if it is, not, that something is being done to rectify it. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I was supposed to get a callback with the joint inspection date but radio silence.
I can assure you they are arranging the JI.

At least VQ doesn’t have a track record where we say we open an OpenNet ticket but in reality when you call OpenNet it wasn’t done :s13:

Anyway - will follow up with the NOC team and let you know the latest.

Thanks for all your help. It is just really frustrating, especially since I have limited time to deal with this and it has been 1.5 days. You would think that there shouldnt be that many ppl requiring this kind of troubleshooting.

maybe i will get a PCI-E sata

Many LSI SAS2008 OEM HBA cards out there for under $200, a decent price for 8 more SATA2 ports.

You'll need a mini-SAS to SATA breakout cable, which I got for a few bucks off eBay.

Hardware RAID does not scale to TB sized and above storage. Write holes + no FS aware resilvering is a disaster waiting to happen.

If you're using SSDs, generally you will not be using a data protected RAID level, which means you can use a regular HBA as the I/O will not be CPU limited.

If you're using HDD, then the parity calculations will not be bottlenecked by the CPU, but by the HDD.

So for most people doing bulk storage, a software RAID or higher level (say, Hadoop or other DFS) system works more effectively.

Unless you are printing money and are doing a RAID5/RAID6 on big SSDs…
