is it a risk (tix sold out) if i don't book ticket for the high speed train (gao tie) travel from Xin Zhu back to Taipei?

Nope. There are many ways to get back to taipei. Bus outside train station like ho hsin, san chong are the main operators in hsinchu-taipei route. Price is about 1/4 of hsr ticket's price. Or if you are not in a rush, take the tra railway , price slightly above 100nt. Guarantee has space, first come first serve.
