owndays glass

they are no good at all

Eg. for their $198 package:
the frames can be bought for $10-20 at ebay
the lens can be found at $50 at a neighbourhood shop

you are just paying for the convenience

Bro, i think even in neighbourhood shop the package is more expensive than $198 lai

After reading the thread today just checked the NEX shop, tempting to try the $198 one, but think need to top-up for the ultra-thin glass as my degree quite high.

Any feedback for their quality compared to those expensive shops, anyone tried the UV protection?

Went to owndays yesterday after reading this thread, collected my glasses in 20 minutes, $158. Very impressed.

I'm shortsighted, 400 on each eye with astig 200 and 100.

bro your 158 package, only shortsighted, or shortsighted + astig ?

Today just check there, if choose 198 package, is for normal shortsighted only, if add astig then become progressive need to add +100, if ultra-thin type then another +100 :)

2 days ago check in another shop, progressive lens + light frame easily goes above $800+, lucky read this

For those using PC lens, may I know whether images/video will look different color-wise?

unless you kenna chop, usually there's no such thing as an expensive shop, just that the shop sells expensive models .
when i talk to people about lenses most can't tell what they bought
neighbourhoods do sell progressives 1.6$200 or 1.67 $300
but don't expect top end lenses
if you've never tried top end lenses before you won't feel anything. but if you're a varilux/zeiss/hoya user you'll feel your field of vision narrowing

not much, some feel there's a bit more contrast

Thanks for the reply.
I've never worn any glasses before, and am considering computer lens as I'm experiencing blur vision during computer use.

Through reading some articles, it seems that many such lenses seem to be tinted yellow/blue. Since I'm using a color calibrated monitor, I was wondering whether the color I see will no longer be "accurate".
I would dread having yellow-tinted whites due to lens.

my eye sight degree is around 700-800. using nikon lenses, cost about $600+ , excluding the spec frames. Are there cheaper alternatives without much compromise in quality?

You can try the optical shop at Peninsula basement where all the guitar shops are. Its called New China Optical, its a tad messy if you are looking for a particular lens but do approach the staff and they are willing to help you out. I have gotten like 4 or 5 specs from the shop and you are able to get in 1 to 2 hours time after deciding what specs you want.

If you want cheap and alternatives or old school go check the place out.

Now i know why owndays is doing such prosperous business and opening one new outlet after another, simply becuz there are people out there who choose to believe they are cheap n good. Their no brand frames cost no more than 15usd(check price of similar frames on aliexpress or ebay) while people actually believe all the bullcrap about their lens are made and flown in from japan.

My recent pair of glasses was from Mimeo. Bought lens voucher from qoo10, eye exam fee is charged if needed, top up to 1.67 index(no brand lens, multi-coat + anti-emi coating), upgrade to EasyClean option, choose no brand ultem frame(the same one Owndays are charging $100+ for), total cost around $130 after discount as they were running a promo during the GSS period. Quality of frame n lens is acceptable to me but the bad thing about them is their range of frames available are very limited(all no brand frames) and they dont do 2 hour collection.

Edit: Exact breakdown of total cost
Qoo10 lens voucher(bought during timed sale) = $15.80
Upgrade to 1.67 index lens = $50
Topup for EasyClean = $20(promo price, not sure how much it costs normally)
Ultem frame = $50
Eye exam = $15
Astig below 200 so no additional fee

Total = $150.80 - $12(GSS promo discount) = $138.80

I pop by 2 neighborhood shops just to look around. . They offered eye check (using a machine) free of charge.

I did it without buying anything.
