Last time LMT has battery issues with it's plane and everybody was dumping left and right while I hold. After a short sharp fall, it rise from the bottom and doubled within a year, still holding high.

Of course, the above is about a company suffering from a short term issue which when rectify, makes those who sold looks silly. The question here is, is IHC fundamentally a solid company suffering from a short term issue or is it a real problem that may/may not be solved?

Just saying.

Just be aware that bigger caps are not fail safe either. The current volkswagen
saga is a case in point

thats true also.

you can make your own assessment and decide.

5 out of 10 small caps are land mines

1 out of 10 big caps is a land mine

That's why I am more partial to buying STI ETF these days. Need to spread risk among various blue chips.

What are some warning signs of this trap?

One that I can think of is the higher PB compared to other REITs.

Maybe don't get involved in weird microcap merger-arb situations? It seems like this might have been some sort of weird pump-and-dump - looks like IHC was trying to keep its share price up so it could get the rights issuance away to buy Healthyway.

what is "microcap merger-arb" ? :s11:

this merger's scheme is to issue NEW DILUTIVE shares from the acquirer (IHC) to the acquiree's (HMC) share holders.
no cash considerations.

1 thing for sure, whenever there's issuance of new dilutive shares, (rights issues, private placement) I will get very worried

on hindsight, its easy to tell many retailers got played out
on foresight, how to tell?
