GPU recommend for phantek itx case

Hi all, need some help from expert as i just finished building an itx.

current specs

Msi b150i gaming pro ac w/ i5 6500
8gb ram
sapphire r9 380x nitro
superflower leadex 550w platinum
phantek evolve itx case

On dota 2 :
No OC is done and i noticed high temp for GPU when gaming after
10-15mins the GPU fans will run at max on and off and the noise is unbearable. Temp display in crimson overdrive was 90c when the fans start to run at max. When I enable vsync, temp seems to cap at 75c and fans don't throttle.

On the division :
Same thing happened unless I tone down to medium settings and enable vsync. Gameplay still quite choppy during heavy firefight in medium settings.

Is this a heat issue from my case that prevent the 380x to function properly ? As the GPU and PSU space inbetween is very small and airflow is very minimal.


Was thinking of upgrading GPU but afraid of same problem with temp. Any advise if i were to upgrade GPU budget $1k and below.

You can try to move out everything first from the case, to see whether the issue is because of the minimal gap between GPU and PSU.
because if that is the issue, upgrading the GPU might result the same problem..

PSU usually don't heat up that much temp...leadex psu is very gd

most likely u r right abt gpu & psu too close causing gpu high temp...

Performance though is not the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv’s strong point though, putting in some of the worst thermal performance that we have seen here at pcG. This is of course down to the single 200mm 800RPM fan and the fact that there’s no exhaust fan fitted and the GPU is in very close proximity to the top of the PSU shroud! The latter caused our toasty XFX R9 290X to almost melt at a whopping 95 degrees Celsius!

did some research and found r9 fury x come with aio cooler, think it will help in this situation ?

your itx setup is very similar to mine;
have u considered the r9 nano ?

It can reduce the noise generated from the gpu and the temps of the gpu would be lower for AIO cooler.

I feel the idea to change the GPU will not solve any problem here since it seems to me that it is a design flaw with the casing.

You can either,
1) Change your case - Which I think could be a cheaper solution,
2) Change heatsink of the GPU to watercooling - though I don't recommend cause its just above your PSU.
3) Not sure if you are able to flip the PSU around, so the fan face upwards. That side of the PSU is cooler since its where the fan is. - No harm trying this since it cost nothing.

I'm comparing r9 nano and fury x, not sure which suits more.
Leaning towards fury x more due to the AIO but not sure if my
psu can support.

I feel changing graphic card is not addressing the root cause of the problem. Unless like u mentioned, changing to something that is water cooled. Changing to a Nano does not change the fact that the graphic card is still very close to the PSU. And for the added cost of upgrading just because of the layout of the case, changing the case is cheaper and will mitigate this problem in the future too. Unless you are planning to water cool your GPU in the future when you upgrade.
