If you are a parent, you will know this Dr Kong shops. They sell shoes and school bags for children. Great for the feet and also back support.

I have a lot of people not understanding where the Dr Kong store is in Mongkok. I must explain that unlike shops that are in a shopping center for SG, HK shops use office blocks or office buildings. SGers will find this strange but this is how HK works.

The Dr Kong Footcare store in Mongkok is at 683-685 Nathan Road. This is the May May Building. I know how guys work in their heads so the main landmark is the Hang Seng Bank branch beside it. At the ground level where you walk along the street, you will see some children shoes and clothes displayed. This is not the Dr Kong store but the May May Children's Dept Store in 2/F or 3/F. Anyway I forget.

Just go into this building and take the lift up to the 14th floor. This is the Mongkok branch of Dr Kong Footcare. To confirm you can see the office directory opposite where the lifts are situated. Near to where the security guard sits.

The lift doors will open directly into the Dr Kong store.

The Streetview on Google Maps will show the entrance when you key in Nathan Road, 683-685, Hong Kong.

Their shoes are comfortable but their white shoes are definitely better than Bata. Sorry the black shoes are strictly formal school going black shoes and cannot be used as athletic footware. Lots of adult working shoes as well.

OK forgot to put more info.

The bags come in sizes of S, M, L and XL.

I found M to be useful and can be used for children up to Pr 3 or 4 provided they don't have anymore things to stuff into the back. Prices seem to be standard at HKD279 for all these sizes save for the XL range which happens to be some kind of laptop back pack.

There is also 10% discount when you spend over some amount. I got two bags for HKD504.

I do favor these bags over using some Deuter or other bag for children because of the support and ventilation which quite similar to the Deuter bags.

The other plus point is the zippers. Real YKK zippers with larger than your run-of-the-mill teeth than a Barbie or Barney motif bag .

They also don't slump over. Once the books are in place, the bag sits upright.

Sells for at least SGD68 in SG. Getting rather popular looking at how Popular Bookstore stocks it constantly.

Dr. Kong -

During my recent trip to HK, I saw that Dr Kong has opened a number of outlets at a number of shopping outlets near to MTR. As I hv not been to this outlet at Nathan Road, not sure if the bags and shoes at its Nathan outlet is cheaper than the rest. You can visit this website for the list of its outlets in HK.

Overall, most of the school bags are selling at HK$299. A few are going at HK$199. Hence comparing to the prices of the bags sold here, think it is worth it to get one for your kid if you are going to HK this month before the school reopens. My daughter happened to choose one nice looking one at HK199.:D

Scool or Kid2youth sells them too. They used to be in Suntec City but has now relocated to Parkway Parade.
