Need some technical advice.

I just got a Acer Predator Helios 300, which comes with the Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i 160MHz Wireless Network Adaptor (201 NGW).

My home is Singtel Broadband (500mbps) and I am using ASUS Wireless-AC1200 Dual Band 802.11 ac Gigabit router. While the laptop is brand new, the wireless router is about 3 years old.

The wireless router is still working very well. At home, we connect many devices (especially now with work from home), including laptops (office, personal), mobile phones (both iPhone and Android) and iPads. No problems.

But today, when I tried to set up my new laptop, the Wi-Fi connection doesn't work properly. The funny thing is this. There are a few sites that I can access. These include channelnewsasia, BBC, CNN, DBS e-banking (can see my account), and even CPF website using singpass to check my CPF balance.

Yet, there are so many websites I cannot access. Gmail is problematic. Also, I can't access Youtube, Facebook, Dropbox, iCloud and many more.

I have tried many times, including getting all the other devices to log off (in case there is bandwidth congestion on the router), but to no avail.

Then I tried to tether using my mobile plan, everything works. I also tried to tether from my wife's phone (she is on a different mobile provider), it also works.

I've been reading online to try to find out the problem, but I can't seem to find a solution.

To add on, I faced this problem when I first set it up, so I have reset the laptop (which would have reinstalled Windows), but the problem still remains.

If anybody has faced such a problem or have ideas, please let me know.

Update - I connected my laptop directly to the router using RJ45 cable and I have Ethernet connection. But the same problem persists!

Use any mobile to connect to your ASUS Wireless-AC1200 Dual Band 802.11 ac Gigabit router. Do you encounter similar problems?

I suspect is due to your OS account of Acer Predator Helios 300. Is it a kid account?

No problems. My family connects our mobiles to our home router. Both Android and apple devices as well as iPads.

I also accessed my router admin to take a look. Everything looks normal. For my this laptop, it is showing up as a wired connection, that is connected to the Internet, as I have my laptop plugged in now using RJ45.

The other devices are using the wireless connection.

So odd.

Sorry what is OS account? I just got the laptop today and powered it up to install. After that I reset the machine and it re-installed. What is a kid account?

Check your router to see you enable mac address filtering or parent control or things like that in the router. Disable those things to see if that helps.

Disable similar things in your laptop as well if you find things suspicious.

Checked. Mac address filtering, parental control are not enabled.

I don't know, I am beginning to think that maybe my router is too old to talk to this new LAN adaptor. Is that a possibility?

Would it make sense for me to buy and install a new router that can that the newer protocols like AX?

Any recommendations for which routers that are easy to install? I remember the last time I installed this AC-1200 myself and it was quite a pain. It didn't work for a long while until I managed to tweak some settings with somebody's help. But it has worked wonderfully since then.

By right that should not happen.

If you still keep your SingTel issued free router, try that as well.

SingTel ONT users require vlan so that is probably your pain comes from. The setup should not be very difficult.

Recommend upgrade will be Asus RT-AX58U at around S$235.

This is really bizarre. I read online on reddit that there were reported problems with the Killer ethernet/wifi adaptor. The official Killer website recommended to

1. uninstall the wifi adaptor,
2. run a Killer uninstaller which I had downloaded.
3. reboot and then install the latest Killer software package

So I did steps 1 and 2 and rebooted.

But before installing, I just tried to connect and now I can access YouTube! Then I pulled out my RJ45 cable and I still could connect to my home wifi! And I can access YouTube too!

But I uninstalled the drivers and install the new ones. Yet it still works.

So all good now?

If other device is working fine and just this new laptop. Check your firewall setting of laptop. Worse case, uninstall it, reboot and retry.

If other mobile devices have no problem, it already shows that the problem is only at Acer Predator Helios 300. Does it has wired connection? Use wired connection to isolate problem relate to wireless connection.

Great. Yes now you should be fine.

Similar problems but probably different.

My bad, did not see that you have resolved the problem. You should feedback to Acer Service Support on this issue.
