Hi Guys,

we just got our resale flat recently and i'm looking to relocate the Opennet ONT point to the storeroom instead. Understand there's a charge of 200+ to engage Opennet to relocate it but i find it abit expensive just for relocating the point. was wondering if there's any available internet plans out there that offers free installation/relocation of Opennet point?

Thanks!

Hi ts, the correct term is Terminal point(TP) not ONT(aka modem)

Imo, since you got the TP, i don't think those ISP will offers free installation/relocation. But you can give it a try and ask them.

As far as I can remember most ISP promo is free installation.

Since you already have a TP Install and this is relocation. Most likely you will have to pay

U mean relocating the TP?

Actually y u need to relocate the TP? Please refer to bro Trans-AM's picture. The TP will be connected to the ONT when u signed up for a fibre plan and u will use an Ethernet cable to plug into the router

So might be more cost effective to get someone (or diy) to patch an Ethernet cable from the TP area to your bomb shelter. In this configuration, the ONT will still be next to the TP. But u can put ur router in the bomb shelter

Alternatively, u can also consider patch fibre points from the TP area to the bomb shelter. Like that, u can use a short fibre cable to connect the TP to the fibre point next to it, then get another fibre cable to connect up the patch point to ur ON in the store room. This is more ex, but at least ur ONT is in the store room if u prefer that

If I am not wrong, you can have an extension fibre cable wiring up to 15m free and any additional length cost per meter.
NetLink Trust (formerly OpenNet) are only assigned to, and ISP(s) & contractors are not allowed.
TP do have 2 sets and so NLT will use 1 set to pull & extend to another location.
This was told me by OpenNet as I had intended to have another TP.
This free was said to be done upon sign-up.

Depend on your existing contract, you could skip the reallocation cost.
When my re-contract was due and happened to moved to new flat.
ISP did is to sign-up up as new, with free 1 set data point installation, if not have to pay.
Final cost =$0.00

You may have to check & request your ISP on this, as it is up to them to charge you or Free.
Charges is up to them to say.
Do note that you have to calculate the FULL Cost, including termination fee & disconnect fee which is payable.
It can cost $35 (my case) to $240.00 as most complained here.
Ensure everything is clear on YOUR Contact.
As for those T&C is standard charges, which apply if not mentioned in your contract.

Regard.

You can get an external contractor to add additional ethernet point to your rooms from your living room (ont). No need to relocate and pay for additional money to relocate as my contractor charged only 50-80sgd per terminal point he installed on my rooms.

Second this. Get your contractor to lay the cables for u to every room, choose 1 room/ location to place the patch panel. This is the place where all the network points from every room will be laid to. Just make sure u have at least 1 ethernet point next to TP. connect ur ONT to the TP and use a short ethernet cable to connect the ONT and the ethernet point next to it. Depending on how u configure ur patch panel, u can place the router in anywhere in the house.

If he is not comfortable in terminating the faceplate, then u can DIY terminate it yourself. Its not that difficult. Just watch a few youtube videos will do.

I managed to DIY pull CAT6 cables through my whole house, into every bedrooms and add in a patch panel in my TV console area. Each room is wired with a 2 gang Ethernet point for more flexibility.

Its damn siong do the drilling and to pull the cables as a large part of the route need to go through false ceiling. Damn messy and shagged. but terminating it is not too bad. Just need some patience nia.

Just need to do some planning and envision where is the best place to place the ethernet point.

A minor correction &or explanation on these statements
1. Just make sure u have at least 1 ethernet point next to TP. connect ur ONT to the TP and use a short ethernet cable to connect the ONT and the ethernet point next to it.
2. Depending on how u configure ur patch panel, u can place the router in anywhere in the house.

1. There is a need to have ONT ->> Router -->> LAN cable to Data Points.
Due to ONT only assigned one Public IP address.
A Main Router is required for IP from the ONT and with Router LAN Ports to out to LAN cables, bundle or separated, to Data Points.

2. It may not work as in point 1.
But in order to work, i use additional router connect to room Data Point and act as Bridge to Router WAN port to act as wireless & hubs using Router 4 LAN Ports.
