I was setting up my friend's home Wifi at Boon Keng. He is using Starhub 1G fibre with DIR-868L router... I did a speedtest on my phone and only get D/L 184Mbps and U/L 156Mbps...

My home at Marine pArade using M1 1Gb fibre usually gets D/L 489Mbps and U/L 450Mbs whenever I do a speedtest. My home using Asus RT-AC56S

Both was set to use Starhub server.

If the router does not play a significant role in the speed (although the Link suppose to be faster AC1750 compare to my Asus AC1200), how come there is a big difference in the speed?

What device u used to test on M1 (wifi)? We have to compare the speed based on the same device used as speed vary from device to device. If you are using notebook to test M1 wifi speed then you should use the same notebook to test Starhub wifi speed. Notebook wifi can be 2x2 or 3x3 (usb wifi adaptor) or 4x4 (usb wifi adapter) Handphone wifi can be just 1x1 only so it is slower. Many things can affect wifi speed.

Suggest you do a upgrade the DLink DIR-868L firmware to 1.09SHC

This firmware will enhance the wireless as confirmed by the DLink support staff and my devices.

Link to the firmware upgrade.

http://www.starhub.com/content/dam/edm/2017/broadband/d-link/index.html

For Starhub customer, do enter the contest on the link to upgrade page.

If unsure on how to do the upgrade, do contact the DLink hotline 6501 4200 for Starhub customers.
Direct to Tech support staff to assist your friend, as they need the email to send you the link to download the firmware.
The staff will take you step by step procedure which may take several minutes, which include factory reset.
If the line is busy, call later as it may online with another user.

Should the connection speed is still way below 600Mbps, do contact Starhub HOTline 1633 direct to Broadband Tech support line.
Direct wired for Starhub Local Speedtest;

http://broadbandspeedtest.starhub.com/speedtestv3.1/

Request the staff to Refresh IP as this is one way to reset IP.
Again if the line is busy, call later as it may online with another user which may take several minutes.

For Ookla App, set the setting on the server to Starhub Mobile Pte Ltd and at least repeat the test to have an average result.
Samsung S7 and S7 Edge result: About 470Mbps.:D
