Hi All,

I use Singtel miotv. And recently Singtel started charging the set top box , which it rented to me for free in the last ~2 years.

My question: if I stop renting the set top box from Singtel, can I buy a set top box from market to replace the Singtel one?

Thanks.

2 years means contract finish already right? Then sign again if you want, you should get free rental again. If not call Singtel and say you don't want to continue unless rental is waived. Confirm waive one. :s13:

Thanks to all for giving your ideas.

I called SingTel. The operator said that the set-top box rental fee cannot be waived. Instead he waived one-month fee of my MioTV plan. That is about S$45. Not bad.

He also said that if I re-contract, the set-top box rental fee will be less (around S$1.5).

Sorry, it should be vyprvpn. Internet channel like Hulu plus is not cheap too. Not every tv have Hulu plus apps and flash player. Some Tv could not update flash player when there is a new version and after sometime the old flash can not be used. In addition the router filmware must be able to support such vpn configuration.

You add Singtel or Starhub sub group together to be similar to Hulu plus and compare. Laptop or android box HDMI to TV not very difficult. No need TV flash player. VPN hahaha. Use Astrill or use VQ freedom VPN lah VQ has more channel then you can handle. Even you pay Freedom VPN it is still cheaper and more channels then your Mio TV or cable TV.

MR teleport also better alternative. Hulu, Netflix and sports. More expensive then Mio? Please show us some calculation.

I am actually talking about watching internet channels using samsung smart Tv. Just need to have a vpn provider, then do configuration in the router. Then switch on the smart tv and go to the installed apps. Click on a channel apps, and select the show u want to watch and it will play directly on the Tv.

New Sony TV will be preloaded with Netflix so work without VPN or not is yet to be seen.

Nowadays all those internet stream sites subscription(especially china ones) is much cheaper than our local crap cable TV prices .

Think what you need is an android box .
