I have been looking ard and found one that suits me the most which is the Acer Swift 3, one with the mx150, 512gb ssd and core i5. However the price is a little tough for me, priced at $1296.
Any recommendations for a laptop ard the $1000 price range with a minimum having a dedicated graphic card and 8gb ram.

Does anyone know where I can find these student discounts? Is it only during the roadshows in poly? I was thinking to just buy from the next upcoming IT Show.

Yes, the laptop discount through poly is only available during the roadshow, unless you bother to call up the company that won the tender, etc. Whatever deals you get there will almost always beat any generic IT show promotion. Plus, you'll also most likely get better warranty service, since you can just head down to the IT counter at your poly if got any problem, during the first year or something like that.

Take note that buying from poly cover you 3yrs on-site warranty. If you buy from outside like IT show or retails shop, it covers only 1yr warranty. Even purchase the extended warranty, it is a carry-in. So there is pro and con, it will depend on each preference.

Be patient and wait for the poly roadshow. Good deals will always come around. If you are concerned about the price then all the more you should wait for the Poly roadshow.

I believe you can find the price list from previous year if you search the poly website. That would give you a hint on what the price difference would be like. Things may be different each year but the general consensus is that poly roadshow provides better value.

You can consider the Asus Vivobook X510UF-BR154F, if you don't mind the HDD. It fits all of your requirements. Spotted at Mustafa Centre, Best Denki and Challenger (not all Best Denki and Challenger outlets have this laptop in stock)
Costs $949 if the price isn't changed.

That is standard market price. Not expensive at all. A few years ago it was $1,699 for such specs.
