my brother wan to build a new gaming rig with a budget of around 1.2k as his notebook suddenly just hang today after loading to windows.

Do not need the following

1. RAM
2. SSD
3. Monitor
4. Keyboard & mouse

Need OS.


What is the best setup that he can get with the budget?

Not enough (and also not worth) going for GTX 980/R9-390X. Nothing much can be spend to improve bah. Perhaps chassis lor.

Spend on beautifying the chassis with bling blings, red sleeved modular PSU cables?

IMO, it makes more sense to go for r9 390 over gtx970 for the 8gb vram if budget allows.

Yes, agreed. 390 makes more sense over GTX970. 970 only has 3.5GB usable RAM.

Yup around same range. Just not sure if u ok with the available options on Lazada. Asus n Sapphire R9 390s only i think. Up to u

actually i am leaning more to the R9 390.. but thinking if shld get the asus one from lazada or msi one from sls when i go down to purchase the cpu and mb for my bro..

R9-390 is SIMPLY an overclocked 8GB VRAM version of R9-290.

No perceivable difference, just nicer model number lol.
