$1.4k Rig

Hi there,

looking to build a 1.4k rig.

No monitor, OS required.

Purpose is for gaming.

Preference for i5-3570 and msi 7850 twin frozr for graphics card.

I have zero idea what motherboard should i get as i do not know what to look for in a motherboard (graphics card and processor has benchmarks, so what do we look for motherboards?), though i understand that i should be looking for Z77/H77 motherboards, but that's about it.

ps: in the process of learning how to come up with a spec sheet

Current list (subject to change):
Mobo: Asrock H77 pro-4m / MVP
Processor: i5-3570
GPU: Msi 7850 Twin Frozr
Ram: G-Skill RipJawX 1600
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB 3.5"
PSU: <not sure of this>
Casing: Corsair Carbide 200R
DvD: Samsung DvDRw 24x

Please help me verify the compatibility/and modify as necessary and adjust worth for the 1.4k guys! Hope i didn't disappoint. Thank you :)

ps: im comfortable with adjusting to haswell as well :s12:

Thanks a lot Madnessfan. Would like to ask, is it viable to jump onto the Haswell bandwagon so soon? What advantage does it offer?

Not much advantages between Haswell or ivy bridge desktop. IMO, the disadvantage of getting an IB is that it will be obsolete soon.

For IB,
CPU & Mobo: i5-3450 & MSI B75A-G43 Gaming @ $366
Ram: Kingston 1600mhz value ram 2x4GB @ ~$76
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB @ ~$80
SSD: Plextor M5S 128GB @ $139
GPU: MSI 7870 Twin Frozr @ $336
Case: Asgard Midgard II @ $89
PSU: Seasonic S12 520W @ $89
OS: Windows 7 Home 64bit OEM @ $110

Total: $1307
Buy and build at Tradepac.

For Haswell, change the cpu & mobo to i5-4430 & Asrock B85M Pro 4.
