Why SFP+ port?
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...itch-and-vq-xgs-pon-onu-stick.7047645/page-14
just curious.... why do you power users prefer swtiches with sfp+ over built in copper ports....

for me, it's mainly about the flexibility of choosing what phy interface i want

with a SFP+ (or similar) port, i can use:
  • a 10Gbase-T transceiver (which will probably take somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5-2.5W per port)
  • a passive/active direct-attach cable (copper twinax, vs copper twisted-pair for base-T) -- simple, low power consumption for short distances. possibly also lower latency, but really not very appreciably so, i'd think
  • optic transceivers (e.g. if you run fiber structured cabling... or you've taped some to the ceiling... or whatever). singlemode fiber is very future-proof -- a fiber pair that you've ran 20 years ago for 10G can easily handle 400G with transceivers you can buy today
  • other, non-Ethernet optic transceivers (e.g. SFP ONU sticks)
  • weird transceivers (like this weird SFP NTP stratum-1 server)

You may be able to find some 10G RJ45 switches (managed or unmanaged, PoE or without PoE) from some Chinese vendors. They may still be not so cheap compared to the 10G SFP+ switch though.

1. Chinese vendors selling in Amazon or AliExpress: I am not familiar with them but you can take a look at the reviews from STH: Yuanley, Nicgiga, Sodola, etc
https://www.servethehome.com/category/networking/

Yuanley
Nicgiga
Sodola
Mokerlink
ienRon
Horaco

2. Chinese vendors selling to both domestic and overseas market:
Hasivo and XIkeStor(seeker) are probably more famous. KeepLiNK may be another brand.
Hasivo 海思视讯
XikeStor/Seeker 兮克
keepLiNK

3. Chinese vendros who are mainly selling in domestics market
TP-Link China
ONTi
感闻
联果LianGuo
希力微视
JT-COM 景唐
oamlink
巢客
etc

4. Not counting those higher end brands, mainly for enterprise
Huawei
ZTE
H3C
Ruijie

one more post for mini PC with 2 or more 10G RJ45 port?

No, this one is very rare. As of now only one and it is not very good with AQC113C chipset (not supported by pfSense yet).

Edit: still added it in Post #2 but added the note that it is not recommended unless running OpenWRT.

New offer from Starhub for Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps customers --> TP-Link HB710 (dual 10G ports, no other LAN ports, triband BE18000) at S$192.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/home-networking/wifi-router/hb710/
https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=LfNB5odcBt0mTG6Pr7GSB7

How does the TP-Link HB710 mesh work?
The TP-Link HB710 uses Easymesh* technology and is compatible with another TP-Link HB710. For the best performance and compatibility, we recommend meshing with another HB710 or EB810v.

* Mesh nodes that are available from other brands would not be compatible with the TP-Link HB710. We strongly recommend using another TP-Link HB710 or EB810v for best performance.

I need more coverage on my home network with the TP-Link HB710, what can I do?
You can extend the coverage by purchasing another TP-Link HB710 or EB810v from StarHub. Additional units can be purchased at $8 per month for HB710, $15 per month for EB810v (for 24 months) during initial sign-up or cash & carry from our retail store and Hub Troopers at $192 or $360 respectively.

It is also part of the following 5Gbps plan bundle (ONT+HB710).

Some users may feel the single 10G LAN port of HB710 is not enough compared to TP-Link EB810v (S$360 from Starhub for Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps users). In that case, it makes sense to buy a 2.5G/10G switch.

Two examples from Hasivo: you can buy from Taobao.
1) S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE, dual 10G RJ45 ports and quad 2.5G ports, below S$100
https://www.hasivo.com/productinfo/1097870.html

2) S600W-4GT-1SX-1XGT-SE, one 10G RJ45 poer, one 10G SFP+ port and quad 2.5G ports, below S$80.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a basic ethernet switch that has the same ports as the router EB810V from Starhub:

1 x 10Gb incoming
1 x 10Gb port
3 x 2.5 Gb ports
No need for SFP

I am considering to have this instead of another EB810V as AP in another room. I can't find a switch like this in this thread and on the internet. If there is one and it is cheaper than $360, that would be a good option.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I saw the TP-Link TL-ST1005 which has higher spec (but is very close to $360) and the Hasivo S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE (rather expensive too)......

Hasivo S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE is probably the cheapest you can find. You should look at the price at Taobao 海思视讯 shop and it is only at RMB 699 listed price --> now about RMB 499 in Feb 2025.

Hasivo S600W-4GT-2SX-SE, RMB 219 listed, quad 2.5G ports, two 10G SFP+ ports
Hasivo S600W-4GT-1SX-1XGT-SE, RMB 399 listed, quad 2.5G ports, one 10G RJ45 port and one 10G SFP+ port
Hasivo S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE, RMB 499 listed, quad 2.5G ports, two 10G RJ45 ports

Then there are a few other choices with more than two 10G RJ45 copper ports. Take note 10G RJ45 switches are quite a bit more expensive than 10G SFP+ switches (two times or three times the price).

1) XikeStor/Seeker SKS7300-4X4T, managed switch, 4 x 10G RJ45 ports and 4 x 10G SFP+ ports
https://seekswan.com/xksupport/SKS7300-4X4T.htm

2) TP-Link China 10G RJ45 switches
TP-Link China TL-ST1005 and ST1008 unmanaged switch, 5-port and 8-port model
TP-Link China TL-ST2005 and ST2008 Cloud managed switch, 5-port and 8-port model
TP-Link China TL-ST2408PB, Cloud managed PoE switch, 8-port model

3) TP-Link China TL-ST5008 Layer 3 managed switch, 8-port version

In the same Taobao link you can find a few Hasivo switch which are for different use cases.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...itch-and-vq-xgs-pon-onu-stick.7047645/page-17

Three Hasivo 2.5G/10G switch for different use cases --> when users have only single 10Gbe capable device (NAS or PC)
https://www.hasivo.com/ProductInfoCategory?categoryId=187850&PageInfoId=0

1) Hasivo S600W-4GT-2SX-SE --> dual 10G SFP+ ports, quad 2.5G ports (cheapest, I have this one).

This is a good one to use with routers with SFP+ LAN port, like Xiaomi BE10000 and Asus RT-BE88U, if your 10G wired device uses SFP+ port and not 10G RJ45 port, like the cheap Intel X520 chipset based 10G NIC with single or dual SFP+ ports.

2) Hasivo S600W-4GT-1SX-1XGT-SE --> one 10G SFP+ port, one 10G RJ45 port, quad 2.5G ports

This is a good one to use with routers with SFP+ LAN port, like Xiaomi BE10000 and Asus RT-BE88U, if your 10G wired device uses 10G RJ45 port, like the Intel X540/X550 chipset based single or dual 10G RJ45 NIC, USB4/TB4/TB3 to 10G NIC, etc.

3) Hasivo S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE --> dual 10G RJ45 ports, quad 2.5G ports

This is a good expansion of LAN ports for routers with dual 10G RJ45 ports but lack of 2.5G ports, like TP-Link Archer BE805, Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 and ZenWiFi BT10, TP-Link HB710, etc.

TP-Link Archer BE805 --> bundled by M1 and MR
Asus ZenWiFi BT10 twin-pack --> bundled by M1
TP-Link HB710 --> bundled by Starhub (S$192 only for Starhub users)
