1200-1500 gaming pc

Hi all,

Need help with building a new pc. Currently my build is about 8 years, and i decided to upgrade to a newer build. Ideally will be getting tradepac unless there is significant difference in amount online. Leaning towards non-RGB build.

Usage:
Games: CSGO, NBA2K, GTA
Use: light photo editing, drama. light work.
Monitor: Prism+ X270

Budget include:

Window
SSD m.2 nvme
PC

now is a really bad time to build a new pc with all the scalping. if u can hold it off until after cny then please do.

if not, here is a decently spec-ed rig for ur needs.
cpu + mobo: ryzen 5 5600x + asrock b550m pro4 - $615 pct (tradepac only offers full atx pro4 at $670)
ram: crucial ballistix 2x8gb 3200mhz - $95 amazon
ssd: wd black sn750 1tb - $180 amazon
gpu: zotac gtx 1660 super - $335 dynacore
psu: seasonic focus gx-650 - $142 tradepac (future proofing for new gen gpus)
case: any affordable matx case with good airflow, personal recommendation silverstone ps15-rgb, got 1 from tradepac at $59 in june. otherwise can also look at cooler master nr400, ~$90.
total: $1427

im not too sure what fps u r looking at when u are gaming, but from what i saw on youtube, the 1660 super should deliver about 80fps in gta5, over 100fps in nba and over 200fps in csgo, all at 1440p. windows 10 no need to be activated, maybe can try transferring the product key from ur old rig. if cannot, keys can be found for quite cheap also.

I can actually hold after cny for the pc build.
From the list below, the gpu seem like alittle cheap for the build. Will it actually lower my game play? If possible i also would like to add in a hdd because my existing build will be passed down to my dad casual use.
I am quite noob for the spec performance listed below. I see that the mobo and cpu is mainly the bulk amount for budget. I wonder what is the advantages for this setup. And what is coming up after cny for a better bang for buck!

i believe the recommended by NightRaven49 build GPU is good for your current monitor refresh rate unless you have intention to upgrade monitor.

The CPU will not bottleneck the GPU and can fully optimized very well for the game you are playing based on your monitor tech.

May I double checked your monitor was Dell UltraSharp U2312HM correct? This monitor only have 60Hz refresh rate.

Opps very sorry though you are using dell based on your system spec on the right.

In this case pls wait for Nvidia Jan 2021 announcement for new entry gpu which could be well suited to your budget system build

so is ur actual priority resolution or refresh rate? i very confused now. anyway the rig i suggested is for 1440p (since that is ur monitor resolution) gaming with the games u listed, and is already using a nvidia card. if u still try to force 4k, u likely wont notice any increase in fidelity while almost definitely noticing the hit to fps. fps is also not equally important in all ur games; it is a lot more important in competitive games like csgo compared to gta or nba. so u have to tell us whether resolution or fps matters to u more before we can give u better recommendations for the gpu.

i suggested using 5600x because u did mention u were going to do some photo editing, and it will outperform any intel cpu in this regard while being affordable and still good for gaming. i say after cny because until then supply of ryzen will be very tight, more so in the days leading up to cny. also there are rumours of a much cheaper non x 5600, so it is better to wait for that to release and for supply to stabilise before making any hoots.

there is no such thing as cpu exclusive support for gpu. so long as the gpu has a pcie interface and the cpu goes into a mobo with pcie slots they should work (which has been the case for over half a decade now). u shouldnt worry about this when im suggesting parts that are barely a year old.

Prism+ X270 is 1080p. But your suggested specs is still great for 1080p.

For new rig with monitor, I predict will be more than 2k above. Since u r buying after CNY, I rather u source the parts then. Easier for u to gauge the prices n stock during Feb 2021.

oh, not sure where i saw it was 1440p
in that case, the 1660 super will push about 100fps in gta v, close to 200fps in nba and close to 300fps in csgo, all max settings. i think it should be enough for those games. anyway i wont suggest upgrading further for now since a step higher is the rtx 20/rx 5700 series, which is slated to be replaced soon by budget rtx 30/rx 6000 series cards, so getting the old cards now isnt the wisest choice.

Thank you for the explanation. will prefer something with higher fps, than resolution, if possible, something that is well balance for the 1080 monitor.

I see reviews of 5600x and i am impressed by the benchmark with this pricing. Also understand that nvidia is coming up with a new card on 12Jan, perhaps i shall wait till then if it will have any more savings in budget.

Maybe i would want to sell the current monitor and one with 4k?(i am clueless how this would work out).

I dont think i will be getting a new monitor, unless i managed to sell my current 2 months old x270. And if that is the case, what model should i go after?

Imo it's better if you went with new cpu (5600x) and maybe even get a used cheap one gpu while waiting for January CES show.

This is especially if you're running 1080p.

for ram, crucial is the only brand that i can find that has 2x8gb significantly cheaper than local. crucial is actually quite a reputable brand, especially with its ballistix lineup. they use micron e die for this series, which is about on par with samsung b die in terms of oc headroom, so u could potentially buy a set of ballistix 3200mhz ram for cheap, oc up to 3600mhz and eke out even more performance without paying the extra for better binned ram chips.

minor side note: i did find another listing for 3200mhz ram which is the kingston hyperx fury white: https://www.amazon.sg/dp/B07BJJN7D1/ but only comes in 1 stick of 8gb. if u buy 2 (which u should for dual channel operation) it is dirt cheap at about $75, though not sure about shipping cost but it will arrive by this weekend.
