Hi James, what u proposed basically means starting from Hokkaido and move towards south.
Driving in Hokkaido only(suggested by fellow travellers), consensus is public transport if itinerary allows.
One of our intent is to catch the Sakura. With the proposal, we might not catch any as Sakura in Hokkaido starts May, while the south region starts from March onwards. Do correct me if I make an error. Appreciate
Our travel period is last 2 weeks of Apr.
If that is the case, you can flip it around... fly to KIX and move up accordingly.
It depends on your luck as according to average sakura blooming date, Hakodate may start around April 30 and full bloom around 4 May; while Sapporo starts in the first week of May (3 May to start and 7 May for full bloom). Then again, it's based on average

However, it is solely depending on the weather and temperature. So if you flip Hokkaido to end of the travel period, you may be able to see it (at least a few trees and lucky enough you can see full bloom).
This year somehow the temperature is slightly colder looking at the snow in Hokkaido now... and I experience the coldest temperature in Tokyo in 28 years just a month ago.... going to be difficult to gauge....
