This huge number is due to mass testing for all the people in hk. What do you think the number will be for Singapore if mass testing is carried out?

Why is their death rate so high? Singapore death per day is only single digits despite reporting 20k infection. There was once it hit 12 and it literally became headlines.
Living conditions alot worst in HK so people not as healthy I guess?

huge case number is not the concern, it's the mortality numbers.
as mentioned our actual case number should be higher with mass testing.

but even if sinkie land's cases jumps to 40K or 50K a day, people will still go about their daily lives if overall symptoms remains mild and ICU below full utilisation.

it was already in the tens of thousands for a while now..
previously, they only reported those cases that were confirmed by CHP (MOH equivalent), but the CHP were not able to keep up.
now, they are just going report everything, with or without CHP's confirmation, that's why it hits 17k.
btw, it was 20k yesterday.

In a paper titled Modelling The Fifth Wave Of Covid-19 In Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong researchers said their study projected daily fatalities to hit about 100 by late March, and cumulative deaths possibly rising to more than 3,200 by mid-May.

They estimated that new infections could peak at a whopping 180,000 a day in March, prompting epidemiologist and government adviser Gabriel Leung to urge officials to roll out mass testing only after the Omicron outbreak peaks and when Hong Kong has enough isolation facilities.
