Hi there.

I was wondering if it was necessary for me to get an i7 for running 3D Max and Maya softwares.

My current setup is as such:

Mobo: b85-Killer
Cpu: i5-4570 or i7-4770
Graphics: GTX 760
RAM: 2x4 corsair vengeance 1600
OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit oem
Storage: Samsung 250 SSD + WD 1 TB Blue

and all the other peripherals.

If i was on a budget, would the i5 be better? would i lose out much for than if i got an i7? don't get me wrong. the i7 will definitely perform better, but is it worth the amount?

Also advise on anything else i might need to note. Thanks!

Probaly just get what you can afford. modeling wise shouldn't matter too much unless you keep spamming polygons. Rendering wise would be quite obvious, esp when you're making a long flim or animation.

Can read this article and decide if it is worth paying an extra $200+ for the hyperthreading function in i7 CPUs:

Maximized performance: Comparing the effects of Hyper-Threading, software updates | ExtremeTech

To be honest though, I think the differences in render times is too small to justify buying an i7. I would get an i5 CPU, an Asrock H81-HDS and use the $$$ saved to get 16GB ValueRAMs (You need more RAM for rendering, not faster RAM.) and a more powerful GPU like a GTX 970 if possible.
