Hi guys, my dad wants to have a new computer and im thinking of building one for him. However, i'm not too sure about AMD CPUs and their motehrbaord as im thinking of using an AMD CPU as it is cheaper(?). He will be using the computer to download shows and maybe play some games such as fifa, but graphics doesnt have to be high.

Budget will be within 500-600 and he says he want a graphics card 0.0 I also have to include Windows and case. There is no need for mouse and keyboard and monitor.

Any suggestions?

Be very careful. If you DIY high chance he will blame you when things screw up. Damn annoying.

CPU+ Mobo: ASROCK H81M-DGS + G3240 (149)
RAM: CRUCIAL PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 VALUE RAM (8GB) (101)
GPU: MSI GT 610 1GB DDR3 (72)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: FSP 450W 80+ HEXA PLUS (59)
Case: CM 344 MICRO CASE (44)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)

Total cost: $639

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, go to PC Care & Solution at #02-32 and ask Nigel to help you assemble for a fee.

Notes:

1) Unfortunately, AMD's FX CPUs currently are not very good performing and are not exactly very cheap either. They are also very power sucking which requires a more beefy PSU which is bad for your $$$. Hence, a Pentium is suggested for your rig.

2) I was hoping to suggest an AMD APU as the iGPU in the APU is much better than Intel's iGPU for gaming. However, as your old man insists on a GPU, I am unable to recommend a APU as AMD's APU tend to trade processing power for superior iGPU and installing a GPU will defeat the purpose of using a APU for the build. (Old people can be so stubborn at times. :s22:) Hence, a dirt cheap entry level GPU is added to the build so that your old man gets a rig with a GPU for minimally decent gaming and your wallet does not hurt so much.

MSI GT 610 1GB DDR3 can do what? Playback Blu-ray? Maybe cut his RAM down to 4GB and get a slightly better GPU like GT640 or R7 240. Installing GT610 is total waste of $$$. :s22:

Lowest cost?

Hi , sorry to disturb again. But what is the lowest cost to build a 'okay' PC. Just enough for downloading videos and watching videos. Have to include OS and case too..

Take any of these suggested rigs, take out the GPU and the resultant rigs would be good enough for DL and watching videos.

Include SSD, let your dad enjoy the fluidity of a modern PC. Build is Corbell-oriented - if anything non-storage goes wrong and you can't troubleshoot, you have the option of bringing the whole rig down and let them troubleshoot.

It's the step a few of my customers have done before and it saved my time & brain cells :s13:

CPU + Mobo: Pentium G3220 + MSI H81M-E35 V2 - $155
RAM: ADATA 4GB 1600MHz - $49
SSD: ADATA SP900 128GB - $99 (if still avail) or Crucial MX100 128GB - $105
HDD: WD Blue 1TB - $68
PSU: Xigmatek Tauro 400W - $65
Casing: Generic Vios/Headway/Hiway ATX casing - $20
OS: Win7 HP x64 (not everyone can adapt to Win8) or Win8.1 x64 - $120

Total: $582

Buy from Tradepac. Build yourself. If you can't build yourself, bring parts to PC Care & Solution #02-32 and let Nigel build it for you for a fee
