I am currently on Singtel 5G sim only & 1 year contract expires this month. I chose Singtel cos their 5G coverage supposed to be the best.

For some reason when I am on NEL the speed is so slow until sometimes there is practically no coverage. Other lines that i take occasionally are TEL, CCL & DTL and those are okay. I wouldn’t know if its considered super fast but definitely doesn’t crawl like on NEL.

Anyone else have similar issue? Was previously on Starhub 4G & the only issue i had was at Serangoon station very slow/no coverage but the rest of NEL ok. Still tot changing to Singtel 5G would be better. Turned out not.

Am thinking of trying Starhub 5G now. Anyone can share any experiences on it especially on NEL? Thanks!

Does this happen all the time, or only during peak hours?

I’m not sure if StarHub has 5G coverage on the NEL yet, as I haven’t traveled on that line for a while. If you’re referring to street and in-building coverage, Singtel’s 5G is available in most area, but there are still places where I have a full signal, yet the data doesn’t seem to work.

StarHub’s 5G coverage has improved significantly, but I still notice some buildings lack StarHub 5G coverage.

Regarding MRT coverage, it usually works as follows:

  1. Tunnel coverage is available (signal-wise), but data may not work due to overcrowding. This is why I asked if this issue occurs all the time or only during peak hours.

  2. My understanding is that MRT tunnel coverage is shared between the telecoms (Singtel, M1, and StarHub), so the coverage isn’t drastically different. It mainly depends on how many users are online in the same location on the same telco.

Well i usually web browse on the way home on weekdays so peak i guess. Ironically when i was on starhub 4G i had no such problem (same usage pattern) except for no data as the train pulls into serangoon station & while its there. Shortly after departing serangoon its ok.

Oh but i set to ignore wireless@sg so it never attempts to do so. Lol

It so weird. From Sengkang to Little India & change to DTL is ok, have connection. But heading home from DTL side is ok but once change to NEL at Little India, on journey back to Sengkang is GG. Slow till sometimes no connection.

NEL peak period? NEL has been spotty for me on all carriers that I tried.
Yes NEL peak period. You’re talking about 5G right? Wow if its shite on all carriers that sucks. Kinda regret moving from Starhub 4G. At least with that only Serangoon station no connection.

Btw are u using 5G SA or NSA? Im on SA but auto not forced 5G.

5G SA, it's been like this for donkey years along NEL during peak. Even during 4G time.

Sigh! Like that might as well i go back to starhub 4G 🙄

Actually you may check those who are still on Starhub 4G, the coverage may become worse already.

This was the experience I had with SingTel 4G. SingTel 4G coverage becomes much worse now but SingTel 5G is now much better for me (living and working on the west side).

So this gets interesting. I rarely take NEL alone & usually commuting to and from home is NEL then DTL and backwards going home. Today i took from outram park back home so just NEL alone. Similar timing. And although speeds were far from ideal at least i had some connection.

So it seems the problem is when i switch from any line to NEL. For example:

NEL to DTL: NEL ok, DTL ok
DTL to NEL: DTL ok, NEL not ok
NEL to CCL: NEL ok, CCL ok
CCL to NEL: CCL ok, NEL not ok

Bloody hell this just confuses matters 😒

Eight user from west side, coverage pretty much the same, but download speed are getting worse.

Singtel sim only 5G contract over & no way im paying $50 for non existent coverage on NEL. Switched to Starhub Starplan for $27.50 including caller ID. Certain areas it falls back to 4G but hey i rather have 4G then no data.

Better than Singtel which claims is 5G & shows 5G on phone but in reality is either slow AF or sometimes no coverage at all. Im referring to NEL which i take often.

If you don’t take NEL & singtel 5G is great on your line, good for you. To me, i rather starhub be truthful & drop from 5G to 4G on NEL (cos 4G still quite fast for web browsing & youtube) than Singtel lie to me & show 5G but in reality slower than 3G or no connection at all.🙄
