5yo Aftershock Setup

Hi Bros,

Need some advice here on my 5yo aftershock setup



So far so good, except that i got my hands on a RTX3070 and will be looking to run some 1440p games on a UW monitor. Assuming I want to retain my current casing, what other upgrades will be necessary/recommended If I do a straight swap with my current 1060.

CPU & RAM is fine, just change to RTX3070 will be ok.
If your games need more RAM or SSD just add in later.

I also have a Aftershock PC, 3440x1440p ultrawide monitor

I never have problem with any games.

Upgrade to 2x16gb kit and GPU to something with 12gb vram or higher. Maybe SSS if you require more space for games.

The upgrade to RTX 3070 should work fine. I would suggest a 2TB SSD for games.

Not much point in further upgrades as you would be better off getting a new DDR5 rig in future.

I do have a concern on my psu thou not sure if its a valid one. i ran an online calculation and 600w seems to be on the just nice range without much buffer after upgrading the gfx card..

You might need to upgrade your PSU

3070 generally runs below 250w, may spike close to 300w but thats still only half of ur rated psu capacity, which is plenty for the rest of ur system. manufacturer recommendations usually include quite a bit of headroom, and u can usually get away with running a psu 100-150w below that. might still be a good idea to upgrade to a good unit though, since the fsp hyper k that was standard issue in that era of aftershock is mediocre at best. a cooler upgrade is also a good upgrade; kryonaut under a stock cooler is quite the waste.

IF you intend to upgrade the motherboard, upgrade to AM5 so that you have room for further upgrade. Otherwise, can consider upgrading the CPU to i7 9700 (~$180@carousell) a 8 cores/8 threads vs your i5 9400F a 6 cores / 6 threads with 9% performance improvement.
