i don't think dog understand any bad nickname or derogatory word ... i went through entire pet dog lifespan and I conclude it doesn't understand human speech , only link 30-50 common word to noun and adjective

Most dogs go by the tone of voice but some do understand a few keywords.

some dogs once you mentioned some words like bath time, they will run away or resist. I suspected the owner trained by using words on something she disliked most thus react to the words.

this was my experience with over 30dogs.
