A 78 year-old woman went out in the early morning to play the "Pokemon Go" game. She was walking alone on the road when she encountered a robber. Five mobile phones and other valuables worth thousands of dollars were robbed on the street.
The robbery occurred at 1:20 am on Thursday (April 24) at Toa Payoh Rise.
According to the "Shin Min Newspaper", the 78-year-old woman went out with five mobile phones at the time, and it is believed that she went to the above location to "catch Pokemon".
When the reporter visited Toa Payoh Rise, a food delivery lady pointed out that she noticed that there were usually many people gathering in that place to play Pokemon Go with their mobile phones.
The police issued a statement stating that the old woman's messenger bag contained five mobile phones worth about $3,000, a portable WiFi router, an EZ-Link card and other miscellaneous items, all of which were robbed by a man.
After further investigation and viewing CCTV, officers from Tanglin Police Division confirmed the man's identity and arrested him on the same day.
The 30-year-old man is Muhaimin Bin Hairul Azzat, who was charged in court on Saturday (26th April). The charge sheet shows that the bag stolen by the defendant is worth $10, and the items inside include a wallet, an iPhone 15, four Samsung Galaxy phones, bank cards, a Pokemon Go Plus device , etc.
According to Section 356 of the Penal Code, if convicted of robbery, the offender may be sentenced to one to seven years in prison, plus caning.
The police said that they will never tolerate such blatant criminal acts and will do their utmost to apprehend the criminals and punish them according to law. If the public encounters such cases, they should remain calm, pay attention to the appearance of the offender, and report to the police as soon as possible.
