A new PC for my dad

My dad intends to buy some PC components to build a new PC. He intends to re-use the PSU, the hard drive and the graphics card.

Things to re-use:

1) PSU (AcBel - 510W & CoolerMaster - 400W)

2) Graphics card (XFX GeForce 9500)

3) Hard drive (Hitachi 500 GB)

4) Windows XP Pro (Genuine)

Guys! Any recommendation on the motherboard, processor, casing, a media drive and RAM? He just needs the DIY PC for normal gaming - Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 for an example.

My dad's budget is around $300 for those components. Is that possible?

Red alert 3 also not demanding. But the OS really lah, too old. lol. Why not go for a windows 7 or 8 retail package since you have a few coms at home?

And whats your budget for mobo + Cpu, chassis and Ram.

When windows XP start giving him problems after microsoft cuts all support for XP after april, he will be in trouble. Besides, wins7 is quite similar to Wins XP. Its not like wins8, totally new learning curve.

Yes, due to low supply of rams, so everywhere all up prices.

Added a DVD rom in list, win7 can pirate from net if u need..just google it ~ put into thumb drive and install thru USB ~

Must see the board do they have drivers for XP or not.

For Jian's recommendation I do not see any drivers for win xp over their website.

So I guess the best bet will be ivy setup.

And yes fyi just invest on a retail package Win 7/8 will do. Now I reconsidering buying a retail package as my house got 2 pc and 1 laptop. Best for me to buy a retail one than keep buying OEM not worth it.

I would suggest AMD's APU for much better value and performance.

An A6 5400k + MSI A55M-E33 (or +$10 for a better board) ~ $173

would perform much better.

So there is no way to infect his PC if he just uses it for simple gaming. Thanks for the recommendations.

This setup is good enough.

please consider moving to Windows 7 , Windows XP Support will end very soon and there won't be any patches after that.
