A thread about screwdrivers (seriously?)

i know, it's probably something so trivial that when you actually get asked about it you can't get it out of your head ... it's like asking a golfer if he breathes in or out right before he swings the club

What type of screwdriver(s) do y'all use for your hardware installations?

Some fancy rust-proof demagnetised alloy screwdriver(s)?

Some fancy power screwdriver?

Or just a cheap screwdriver from 1 of the neighbourhood budget hardware shops?

If you're just using cheap screwdrivers, how do you keep them rust free? I find that those bought from neighbourhood budget hardware shops turn rusty at the tip within a few months Or will you go out and buy a new one if the old one is rusty? Or do you not care and just use it even if it's rusty?

When i worked in simlim last time, have used many screw drivers of different sizes, all magnetic, some have led lightbulb at the handle, also got the electrical drill thing.

Usually will spray wd40 on the tip of the tools, sand off any rust (but not common to rust cos simlim aircon).

Now i work in construction site and do professional audio and also do network points, still use the same way to "protect" my tools. But I've since upgraded to some industrial grade tools, some come in fanciful flightcase with sponge.

my "value store" and "branded" tools no rust leh. after use if dirty, wipe it clean before storing in a cool dry place like in a shoebag away from heat and moisture/water. i treat my tools like they are my gf. sayang sayang. can use/keep long long. only problem is a few lousy ones got blunt easily.

True. Some got Cr-V imprinted on the tool itself but is soft as jelly. Made in China(probably some other country as well) da bian as well. Have to rely on your tool experience to decide if it's really Cr-V.

Daiso screw drivers, rust already throw and buy new one lor. But so far the one i got from Daiso is magnetic and coated tip. still going strong, i prefer to know where to get rust proof screws for CPU cases. those sh1tty ones supplied by manufacturers rust like no body's business.

I try to always use and buy magnetic tips. if not quite troublesome. when they drop into unreachable corners.

I use Wiha screwdrivers. Expensive but worth it. The tips are more precise so you won't strip the screw heads. And they don't rust easily. Tools are worthwhile investments cause they last a long time for a good set.

The regular sets from Stanley which are available from any hardware shops are good enough for me. Used for years, rust free. Don't over think it

I'm using this too.... to fix furniture and REAL hardware.

PC hardware, well, I've got plenty of tools bought and gathered over time and there's more at the office lab. Nothing expensive, just ordinary stuff that you can buy from small shops.
