Activate 2nd phone

Guys, I need help. My Mi 5 battery is dead and I transferred sim card to to Redmi Note 8 using my existing xiaomi account. I replaced my Mi5 battery however I can't activate with a data only card because or same account and iD. Both phone share the same account no. What can I do.

Mayb need sim card to activate. Just create a new acc then. Xiaomi acc not very useful unless u wanna track phone location. All backup are done via google.

Thanks for the quick response. How to unbind the Mi5 account from the Redmi account because both phones share the same account name. Under account.xioami.com, it appears I have a single account email and phone no.

Just sign out from mi5. Redmi note 8 can remove mi5 under device in xiaomi acc setting.

Hi Zhu Tou, Thank you , I have removed device Mi5 from Redmi. I will not be able activate this unused M1card for Mi5 because it cannot receive SMS, probably I had deactivated sms and use data only. I will just live with "a sign in error message" and "xioami activation service notification". I am using Mi5 as a secondary phone. Dont know I can remove xioami account completely without affecting redmi. Thanks again for your advice.

The mi5 can be use without xiaomi acc. The acc is not impt. Otherwise just get a new sim card from tpg/simba. $10 per mth only with new number, i think 50gb data usage.

M1 says that my data card sms service is not disabled but I cannot receive SMS for verification code. Can I do a factory reset to remove the Mi5 account id which is the same as the Redmi's account id so that I can create a new account. I have removed google account. i found a method shown on youtube using unlock code " 3kDL#UKN3GGA2 re:. Is it safe to do this. I think the problem for not being able to receive SMS is because of the sign in error for the mi account.

No idea if the youtube method works. I think u can just sign out from mi5 and create a new acc from there.

Unfortunately, the Mi account open and closed immediately and cannot access security and devices settings. Can a simple hard reset using the volume and power key able to restore the factory settings and remove account.

Hi Zhu Tou, Apologise for all the fuss. I just factory reset to kill the nagging message on error in mi account. Thanks for the help. I will figure out later why the data card cannot receive sms

I believe data sim cannot receive sms because sms is using the voice network, which is not supported on data sim.

Should be can.. the m1 free 500mb data card (which comes with FBB) can receive SMS and make phone calls
