If you think of it, in GE2011, all seats except Tanjong Pagar were contested by opposition parties.
So does that mean most constituencies have been choped forever?
WP won 1 GRC (Aljunied) and 1 SMC (Punggol East) in addition to Hougang SMC since then. If WP only contested the same seats from GE2011, that will only be 15 new seats!
Far lesser than the 22 new seats (besides Hougang) that WP contested in 2011!
That is what Goh Meng Seng and some opposition parties want. They want WP to contest fewer seats, so that WP can't expand too much and will wait for the rest to catch up. According to their logic, the 23 seats WP contested in GE2011 is the max seats WP should ever contest.
WP is already being very reasonable by only contesting 1 more GRC and 1 more SMC. They could have gone to Tampines and Pasir-Ris Punggol as well.
I think what WP did was logical. No point negotiating further. If there will be a multi-corner fight in MacPherson and Marine Parade, so be it.
Can't wait forever for the other opposition parties to try and fail a couple of times before winning a seat. It's now or never. Once we get 6.9 million, it's too late. Sinkies will be a minority in our own country...
