Adding gmail with Exchange.."can't verify.."

My iphone 5 used to have my office email added using exchange. Then for some reason it stopped. (I also have the same set up on my iPad and it still works fine.)

I have tried everything to set it up again but I always get "can't verify..." after waiting. I read that one can go ahead and save the settings anyway but this doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions?

Gmail no longer allows you to add your accounts via ActiveSync on an iPhone.
You are encouraged to use the Gmail app.

If you want ActiveSync support, you're required to be a Google Apps user.

Active exchange is not disabled.

It is available for google business app user with subscription.

It was disabled this year January yes.

It is to note that IMAP on iPhone do not support PUSH.
Hence your battery might take a hit since it is required to fetch mails from the gmail servers at an specific interval.

I'm not sure any of those reply apply to my situation. I am not a google apps user. But, I have the set up I want on my iPad now and it has worked for over a year. It used to work on my iPhone then stopped.

That is becoz although google discontinue the m.google.com for free user, it does not mean it disable the service. For those who already on google exchange before 2011, the service will continue provided your don't redo your iPad.

For those who redo their idevice, google exchange m.google.com will no way to link up.

The only work around is to restore your backup which your google exchange work.

The work around is the cert. issue by google.

Confirmed. I restored from backup for my 5s and I cannot get it to work either.

Now I just forward mails from gmail to my iCloud account. Alternative would be the gmail app but reading new mails on my iPhone does not clear the unread mail counter on my rMBP/iPad mini hence I choose to stick with the native mail app.

I don't know why gmail would disable such a service. Their gmail app completely blows. Can't unthread emails and I hate having to open a separate app just to read gmail emails.

Yup forward is a good idea so iCloud can have push.

Gmail app does clear unread mail counter for all my devices.

They didn't disable.

They just want you to pay for google apps
