Addresses in China and navigation map

I tried locating this address in both Google map and Tencent map (腾讯地图) but couldn’t locate it precisely: 广州市白云区嘉禾街望岗南街二巷.

I would like to find my own way around Guangzhou using navigation maps.

Could someone give me the lowdown on how Chinese addresses are constituted? I use a mnemonic to remember China addresses: 省州县市乡镇村. Doesn’t China addresses have postal code? And will postal code be more precise?

And suggestions on which navigation map is good to use in China?

I already have a few transport apps like Mapway, China Train Booking, Guangzhou Metro. I’m looking for means to navigate either by foot or by car. Thanks.

Google map is next to useless because they have no access to facts on the ground.
The top choices are Baidu and Gaode.
Post codes will be more precise. The address you gave is to a road. It has not a building address.

try using 高德地图， popular with drivers in Guangdong Province and see whether you can locate it .

i use baidu map, the android phone version provides a lot more details than the web version, such as bus stops and the buses that ply along the roads, and near real time info on which buses are how many minutes and how many stops from the bus stop!, and a lot more other details. as the moderator said above, google map is of no value for use in china.

Yup I stumbled upon 高德地图 in App Store. Managed to find most of the places I was looking for. And also managed to bookmarked them in the app. This app is very good.

I tried Baidu maps but it requires a China local number in order to bookmark the locations. So I’m using 高德地图 instead.

I asked my Chinese friends for postal code and they also don’t know their own postal code. One of them said the last time she used a postal code was back in the days when she wrote letters to be sent by snail mail!

I also testing between Gaode and Baidu, somehow i cannot register Baidu. They require China local number that i assume mapped to China itself, else the SMS cannot received to complete registration. Gaode more friendly.

Yes the other maps (Baidu and Tencent) cannot bookmark locations without registering an account.

I'm using both 高德and 百度。百度is better when using browser. I cannot get 高德to work in browser mode. Use on PC, got bigger screen to see.

Baidu is reviled by the Chinese in general. I agree Gaode is better.

Think Gao De need local number to register now, been using Baidu it is okay
