Dear Hardware clinic experts,

Please help me decide which component to buy as I have next to no knowledge about the PC parts. My current rig which is also my 1st rig was built 7years ago by engaging a freelancer who helps to buy, deliver and assemble for a token fee.

I do not have a fixed budget but is looking at value for money components that can serve my needs.

I am the 'plug and play' type so I probably wont be overclocking. I intend to play most if not all AAA titles, all interesting mmorpgs like black desert/archeage/tree of savior, watching 1080 HD videos/movies, basic Microsoft office and heavy torrenting.

I am reusing some of my old components:

1 - Seagate 500GB + Plextor m5pro 128GB
2 - Samsung S223 22x DVDRW drive
3 - Corsair HX520 (not sure this one have enough power for new rig, also not sure should change new one because use for 7years liao)
4 - win7 OS bukit timah hill ver

What I have now:

1 - Graphic card: I have a Asus gtx 970 Strix
2 - Monitor: I have a Viewsonic VX2452MH 24inch

I think that this monitor quite lousy cannot fully unleash and display the power of the asus strix. In this case, will there be any bottlenecking?

So I believe now I still need:

1 - Mobo + CPU
2 - Ram
3 - Matx casing

Please advise :)

THANKS!

What is bukit timah hill version hahaha

For AAA core i5 will do the trick. Maybe bare minimum 4460.
H81 chipsets for mobo, Asus/asrock/MSI are cheap. If you want WiFi can look into m-itx h97 instead asrock/msi./gigabyte.
Standard ram is 2x4GB, 1600mhz if not ocing. Gskill rams are good.
Matx casing suggest coolermaster N200.

Suggest you change PSU. Maybe superflower hx 600? Or leadex even. Coolermaster V series are not bad too I heard.

Suggest for you to get the following based on your usage.

CPU+ Mobo: ASROCK H81M-HDS + i5 4460 (331)
RAM: CRUCIAL PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 VALUE RAM (8GB) (98)
PSU: FSP AURUM S 700W (129)
Case: DEEPCOOL TESSERACT (65)

Total cost: $623

Get the parts from PC Themes
DIY or pay PC Themes a nominal fee to fix it for you.

For your GPU, it can support a 4k monitor thou it will not be able to game at 4k resolution. You can read more about your GPU here.

You might wanna consider upgrading your monitor to a 1440p monitor since you got such a powerful GPU. lol

Thank you for your recommendation. LOL I buy wrong monitor liao I underestimated the capabilities of my gpu .... :(:(
