ASUS H170 PRO GAMING MOTHERBOARD
KINGSTON FURY 16GB DDR4 2666MHZ
SEAGATE 1TB 7200RPM HARD DISK
CORSAIR SPEC-03 W/LED
ASUS STRIX GTX970 4GB

1) No need i7 CPU. i5 6500 is sufficient

2) 16gb of ram is over kill for gaming. If only gaming, 8gb is enough. By the way the H170 Pro Gaming board can only support ram up 2133 mhz. No point getting 2666 mhz ram. 8gb 2133 mhz sufficient.

3) Use the cost savings from (1) and (2) to get SSD (240gb Zotac SSD from Lazada @ $109) and better casing like Fractal Design Define R5.

4) Can consider WD Blue 1tb HDD over the seagate one.

That's very informative, for me a first timer.. Appreciate the advise, i will make the necessary changes :D

If there's any more suggestions, i am more than welcome to listen. Thanks!

Oh i missed out on that, are there any recommended coolers?

Personally, I would go with liquid cooling for such a setup. I used to do air cooling but now will only go for liquid cooling. I feel a good Big Bulky Air CPU cooler eat up a ton of space inside my case. Liquid cooling requires much less space, and it looks a lot niftier and cool. I think can never go wrong going with corsair hydro series, 5 yrs warranty. H80i's and above all ok (just note h80i is 120mmx49mm radiator while h100i is 240mm x45mm). do cater abit budget to it after all you gonna use it for 3-5 yrs?

cpu up to you. some folks wanna have better ones despite not fully utilizing it. like me back then lolol

not too updated on current mobos now but maybe you can get one that can support better cards or rams

rams up to you, i think 16 is just nice but if budget breaks, go for 8 then upgrade, else i think 2x8 is good if you can get 2 pcs instead of 4x4

1tb is barely enough for many these days. get a toshiba 3tb which is only like 130-140bucks i think...good for storage... then get a samsung evo 250 for 119 (less 20bucks coupon discount) http://list.qoo10.sg/item/SAMSUNG-850-EVO-250GB-2-5-INCH/438489851

if you are using a corsair case
then If its me, I will also consider going corsair ssd, corsair psu, corsair hydro liquid cooler, corsair rams :p... all corsair to make it cool? haha

for ssd, can consider this.. http://list.qoo10.sg/item/CORSAIR-NEUTRON-SERIES-XT-240GB/444943485
corsair hydro cooler either h80i or h100i
corsair psu u decide 750 and above enuff for you if you dont need to sli
not too knowledgable on corsair rams :p

just throwing you some ideas

I am just throwing around suggestions. Nothing wrong with that. Ultimately, It is HIS decision to make. If you are so SURE, why don't you give some ideas then rather than spent a minute trying to put me off. It is a forum, we post within our limits, within rules, however we want. If you feel like policing, go ask to be a Mod. Dont come be Police here.

From my own experience:

1) CPU don't need i7 for gaming, i5 6500 like one bro suggested is good enough. I'm still using a i5 2500 with no bottlenecking issue, while I've already upgraded my graphic card once. Personally I will stick to the stock air cooler as I did for many years, I only used a aftermarket air cooler because it looks cool. If you're not planning to overclock, stock air cooler is really enough. You can always add on an aftermarket one when you have the budget for it.

2) I like your current motherboard, no comments there.

3) I will stick to 16gb of RAM though personally, I will use 16gb of non-gaming ram which is cheaper, rather than those gaming ram, but then again, your saving is quite minimal so YMMV. More RAM is better than less RAM imo. You can read around on the internet for the for vs against argument.

4) I will probably go with a bigger HDD but then again, I have many media content so YMMV. Definitely throw in a SSD, makes everything much faster. So SSD will contain your OS, programs, and games, and your HDD will contain your data.

5) Your PC case looks good, enough space to keep everything neat and for possible expansion.

6) GTX970 is probably the most recommended high end graphic card for 1080p monitor. The AMD counterpart is the R9 390, which is slightly cheaper and slightly better in performance. I recommend going for the R9 390 but if you're not comfortable with AMD, no harm sticking with your current choice.

And forget about the cooler, just use stock cooler will do. Save the money and buy something else. You are not overclocking right?

Actually stock cooler is okay, but super noisy only. Can consider cooler master212, cheap and good.

And r9 390. Whack 1st think later. Price can check amazon or if u need help, Get msi one.

Hdd can get wd blue if u using ssd. Wd black/Seagate hybrid sshd if u not using ssd.

Ram support is mostly Dependant on the motherboard u buy, since I see 1 bro say ur mobo don't support anything higher then 2166mhz, just get normal ram and can go 16gb if u do alot of multitasking and dling of stuff. Try get quad channel (4*4)as its better for ur cpu.

Apart from that... Get modular PSU... 80 gold or platinum certify. PSU is like the blood for ur cpu. If its bad... Everything goes with it. And u can use it for like 8-10yrs if u get a super good one. This is one of the item I will spend abit more on.

Case wise I no comments, get something okay and u like in terms of design.
