Thanks for all the answers.

I guess i have to read up more again... has been reading up for some time, thought its time for some real practical investing.. but realise still alot more to learn.

STI ETF i read up that you need to take a test to buy it? What is this all about?

And the current economic outlook seems to be not bad right? So that means not a good time to start investing since prices are unlikely to be at a low?

I've also just started looking at investments, and I've currently gone with dbs unit trust as I'm also a newbie and don't know how to go about it on my own... is there anyone here that bought unit trust from them before? Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated!

New? never mind, go Fundsupermart.com | Mutual Fund, Unit Trust, Fixed Income, Bond, Investment site to read all about basic in investing in UT. I started from there and then slowly into the charts and bits of here and there. No expert but learn my lesson

I have not looked at unit trusts for a long long time. Actually the concern is not the cost. It is about the performance. Research has been done that most of the unit trusts are suck!

Yes, you are right but i can also show you quite a number of funds beat the benchmark index year in and out. Its just a matter of doing enough research to pick out the performers. In fact if you bother to read up at FSM, they have often already pick out the long term winners for you already. They do look at the data over long term and recommend those that perform.

Rule of thumb for unit trusts, do not buy from banks, period. Buy from FSM, dollardex or POEMS, these few have lower sales charge. My mother bought from bank and got sucked dry by the sale charge...:s22: After i show my mother i pay lesser than her from buying online, she know not to buy from banks.

Just check out Phillip Unit Trust | POEMS
I know that POEMS do not charge any ongoing fees and many 0% sales charge funds.
